Personal Narrative: My Love Of Music
My love for music began in middle school. At that time, I was socially awkward with very few friends. To compensate, I buried myself in music. My dedication led to many honors and admiration from my peers. However, when I got to high school, my relationship with music fundamentally changed. The arrival of an overly demanding teacher coupled with a long episode of depression robbed me of my passion to play. As time progressed, the pain I felt became too much to bear, and I became desperate for an outlet in which I could express myself positively. My quest led me to music once more, but classical was no longer the genre of choice. It was in hip hop and rap music that I found the will to overcome mental illness. With sweat drenching their bodies and taking deep gulps for air, five young men sling their arms over each other’s shoulders and take their final bow. The crowd’s cheers erupt into shrieks and tears; for they have just witnessed the boy band One Direction perform live in concert. My screams too, can be heard throughout my house as I watch this video on YouTube vowing to myself that one day I will see One Direction in concert. I make this promise to myself, as my screams then morph into tears of joy and longing as the members of One Direction exit the stage.…

I love to share music with people and I feel that different genres have different therapeutic benefits that can differ from person to person. Listening to music has its benefits but so does playing music, and I use music as a stress reliever on a daily basis. I have experienced the healing benefits that music provides and I wish to share those with other people. Sweat drizzles down my skin as it exits my pores trying to cool my heated body. The blood rushes through my veins pumping blood with the consistent pounding of my heart. Every breath, every second, every action, every thought; I am standing where everything counts. Artificial turf and grass crumpled beneath my torn black shoes and the thick silence only cut by the timed chants from afar. This is the last moment I will stand here for this reason. This is the last moment I will stand here with my family. This is the last moment of my marching band career. Many will say that this was a special group of kids, others will say that this year was a show that was made to make it. I, on the other hand, will say that this was because of seven years of dedication.…

School of Rock. Seeing those words on my calendar made me dread the weeks to come. My parents had signed me up for an activity, once again, without asking my opinion first. My friends would be going, but that didn’t make it sound better. I would be put in a band with people I didn't know. I’d always left being outgoing and meeting new people for my friends to take care of, but this week it seemed to be on my to-do list.…

Finally after waiting in line for three hours, my cousin and I were next in line to meet Fifth Harmony. I was so excited and nervous. Walking quickly up to their security guard Big Rob, I gave him a high-five. Now walking into the room, my mouth dropped. Everything was in slow motion to me. Camila, a member from the band grabbed my arm. She asked me what my name was. Stuttering I said, “Ma-Ma-Makenzie” in a shaky voice. She wrapped her arms around me and called me her best friend.…

“Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Ti, Do!”, I exclaimed to my piano teacher at the age of seven. Since then, I knew that piano would become a significant part of my life. Outside of my activities in health sciences, piano takes a major part of my time. When I came to the United States at the age of eight from Egypt, I was not ready to give up such a huge part of me. I began joining music camps and courses such as S.O.A.R, where I met my future piano teacher, Mrs. Jane. She inspired me to continue playing the piano under the Suzuki methodology and instilled in me a love for music. This caused me to beg my mom for lessons from Mrs. Jane. My younger brother and sister saw my love for music, and decided to play the piano as well.…

When I saw the violin for the first time, I knew I would play that instrument. I went to a show with my parents when I was a young girl- about four or five years old. The majority of the performance was the string orchestra. When I noticed the violins, they were mesmerizing. In my eyes, the violin was a beautiful and graceful instrument. The unique shape and color was the greatest part. It was then that I decided that I wanted to play an instrument. The first time I tried the violin was in third grade at school. I did not know anything about the violin, which made me doubtful and nervous for my first lesson. As time passed during the year I knew I was doing poorly in my lessons; I was frustrated and angry that I was not doing as well as the other students. I wanted to quit violin and try a different instrument. Fortunately, I met Miss Baisch. She was a kind and compassionate woman, who changed my life forever.…

My current ability in music entrepreneurship is at the very beginning on a professional level, but my passion for music began at a very young age. Growing up, I was surrounded by music. There was always beautify music playing in the car, around the house, and through stereos at all of our family events. It was nonstop. I was hearing these vocals, these beautiful instruments, these magical melodies and I was almost immediately enticed. I started to learn the songs that played on the radio, and I mean every song. One of my earliest memories was singing "Love T.K.O." in the backseat of my Aunts car at 7 years old. She couldn't believe that I had even heard the song before, let alone would be about to sing the lyrics to the entire song. That trend continued on as I got…
