Personal Narrative: My Limited Behavior
The results also state, that I tend to establish routines and procedures, prefer to maintain the status quo, and want a secure and predictable work environment I beg to differ, as a child growing up to present, I dare to be different, I never follow the crowd. I challenge the crowd. I like taking risks to some degree. I am not an extremist; however, I will venture out to the unknown. If I am not comfortable with the group or the conversation I will voice my opinion on why I will not be a part of the group and/or the conversation. To a certain degree I like to make a good impression, I believe it stems from the culture I grew up in; there is a high expectation for respect. Respect your elders, respect authority, if I am on a student in a class, …show more content…
My Limited Behavior is Oppositional. This personal thinking style comes from the Aggressive/Defensive Style. This style reflects the need for prestige and influence and the tendency to equate self-worth with controlling others. I would say I do ask the question often, why am I not in a managerial position at this point of my career. I don’t have the tendency to equate self-worth by controlling others. I know myself worth I need no validation. This style also indicate there is a tendencies to dictate rather than guide, try to run everything myself and treat others in aggressive and forceful manger. I am agreeing to some degree. I dictate instead of guiding. My patient tends to run out easily. I see the dictating instead of guiding with my children, however in a work setting I tend to draw back a little but not completely. The aggressive and forceful, I don’t have that. If I feel a situation is not going how I think it should be, I will excuse myself to take a breather, argue with the others in my head for a while then return. The behavior that might be working against me according to the …show more content…
I choose this style because I have heard from several co-workers that, I think I am everybody’s mother. I do tend to want to control the situation even when it not my place to do so, but I do it in a non critical, non aggressive manner. The Power behavior I have to keep in check, because it can make me come across as overpowering rather than exhibiting this power I need to improve on my skills

The dominance style has two main governing needs. These needs are the need to control and the need to achieve. People who fit into the dominance style are goal-orientated go-getters. They find themselves most comfortable when they are in charge of people and situations. People with the dominance style are fast-paced, task-oriented, and work quickly and impressively by themselves. They are annoyed by delays and challenge outdated thinking and ideas. (Alessandra)…

Some characteristics that define my leadership style are prepared, trustworthy, understanding, and most important adaptable. I feel that the best example of a leader we have had in the United States is George Washington. I have tried to model my leadership style after George by finding the delicate balance between being a participant in events and also taking charge when necessary. I think that flawed leadership is when one person exhibits total control over a group of people or situation. A perfect example of me exhibiting the leadership qualities mentioned before happened this summer while on a mission trip in Jamaica. Our mission team’s project for the day was to either work on planting vegetables or cultivate parched, dry ground. I chose…

I see this in my personality. I often think or overthink what I do and tasks that I complete at work and in the school environment. I rarely rush into an assignment or partially complete an assignment. I often am very detail-oriented in projects and assignments. My leadership mentality is mainly to lead by example. I rarely will task another person without knowing exactly what is involved in completing the job. This is probably due to a desire to have control over a situation and know exactly what is involved and how long it will take to complete. Plus I am a person that prefers to build trust by having examples of competent behavior to…

During week one of organizational leadership all of the members of “Learning Team D” took the DISC Platinum rule; a behavioral style assessment that breaks down the individuals predominant behavioral styles; dominance, interactive, steadiness, and cautious. There are sixteen sub-styles that further attempt to explain the results. “Learning Team D” is comprised of a total of five members and none of them have the steadiness style. There out of five have the dominance style. Those with dominance styles are driven self-starters who are most at ease when they are responsible for individuals and circumstances. They strive to undertake numerous things, so they put emphasis on straightforward methodologies to bottom-line outcomes. The Interactive Styles are outgoing, vigorous "party-animals" who like to be anywhere the action is. They flourish on the appreciation, acknowledgment, and praises that arise with being in the limelight. The I Styles only want to have fun. They are more relationship-oriented than task-oriented. The Cautious Styles are logical, tenacious, methodical individuals who appreciate problem solving. The sub-styles are enthusiast, adventurer, producer, pioneer, and the master-mind. The enthusiast is less open and more direct. This particular individual is driven by swaying people. They enjoy symbols of authority and prestige. The adventurer is less guarded and more direct. The individual is…

The primary focus of this behavioral style is a no nonsense approach which shows no fear in bending the rules while accepting challenges and problem-solving. The Dominance style member of our group, Terry, is most comfortable when in charge of people or situations due to being goal oriented and exhibiting a desire to achieve. This individual is quick and self motivated and enjoys working alone. She is often a perfectionist and has little tolerance for slower or less adept individuals. This individual 's strength lies in her ability to take charge and to make decisions. Weaknesses noted for the dominant style are as follows: impatient, non-flexible, and lack of sensitivity toward others.…

According to the Life Styles Inventory results, my primary style is conventional, and my backup style is affiliative. I have always been referred to as an “old soul” and being conventional has always been my second nature. Being conventional means you that I appreciate rules and structure. I also am reliable and follow policies. Conventionalism and accounting seem to go hand in hand, so I feel confident I can use this personality trait to succeed in my career path. The results of the LSI test concluded that being affiliative was my backup style. Affiliative means that you have a genuine concern for others, and are friendly, and cooperative. I believe this result is a true representation of me. I am not one to cause waves unless absolutely necessary. I also show a lot of empathy towards others and I am always ready to listen to others concerns. I was a little surprised; however, to see how high I scored in dependent and oppositional. I have always considered myself very independent, and very rarely oppositional. I prefer to work on my own without much help, and I am driven to succeed. These results have made me take a second look at myself, and behaviors so I can work to improve any negative qualities. I believe that my passive/defensive style could be working against my overall effectiveness as a leader. Needing approval, avoiding confrontation, and being dependent, all work against me becoming an effective leader. In my current job, I have…

Each and everyday people walk the halls of this school. You see people walking on the streets in their neighborhood. They are all walking forward. Why? That is what is normal. We have been doing it this “normal” way since humans could walk. Baby's first learning to walk don't walk backwards do they? No, they are biologically programmed to move forward. I wanted the breaking of my norm to be obvious. What better way than to walk backwards and go “against the crowd”.…

    Leadership Manifesto

I’m not entirely sure how my subordinates would describe myself as a leader since I was only recently put in charge of the wheel & tire section at . In that short time though, I would hope that they see me as fair, hard working, reliable, and determined. I strive to fit myself into an organization when I first arrive and to get a feel for how the processes and procedures flow. I like to sit back and observe before I decide what, or even if, any changes need to be made. This would also depict how I think my supervisor would describe my followership. That I am willing to accept adopted procedures and methods before inputting my ideas on any changes that I feel should be made. As a leader, and a follower, I believe in getting and giving ideas when solicited or offering those ideas if I feel they could make a positive contribution. I also feel that excellence is the only standard worth measuring by, and that in order to train my subordinates I cannot always take charge. I may let my subordinates take charge and simply supervise/observe thus allowing them to grow as leaders. I feel that my style of leadership is effective since it allows myself and others to contribute to, and fully accept, ideas as our own. Pride in ownership is key.…
