Personal Narrative: My Growing Up In Spain
Let´s start by the beginning. I am Armando Santos. I am 43 year-old and I have grown up in Spain; and I have spent my last 6 years out of Spain, relocated first to Belgium and then to the United States 2 years ago. I do not know where I will go next. Through these countries and moves I will explain you my past, present, and future. My past is Spain. Spain is the country where I was born and I grew up. It is where my family and most of my friends live. I spent fourteen years in a catholic school. I also loved sports, so I used to play for Real Madrid soccer team when I was a kid. Once I finished school, I served one year at the Army as at that time the Military Service was mandatory. Then, I started to work for an insurance company. That company allowed me to attend a specialized program in insurance. Though, insurance was interesting, I moved to the Sales Department that was more active. When I was twenty-three years-old I realized that technology and computers were my passion and started to work in an IT Department. …show more content…
I did not speak much English, because I was coming from Belgium where I used to speak French. In July 2014 I started to learn English at the Miami Dade College. I finished all non-credit courses nine months after. I started to consider working in the United States, and I discovered that I have to obtain some IT certifications, so I enrolled for two programs at Miami Dade College. From January 2016 until June 2016, I have completed the two of them with excellent grades. Those grades have encouraged me to get an Associate Degree in Computer Information and Technology. I love Miami. It is a great city where I have found new friends and it is easy to

The line sounded rehearsed, as if he had spoken these words multiple times a day for many years. His glossy brown eyes penetrated my startled blue ones for as long as I let them until I turned away. His dirtied innocent face was one that came straight out of a UNICEF commercial, the sort that caught you off guard during a commercial break of your favorite TV show. Wistful faces of impoverished children flick before your eyes as a concerned voice insists that if you donate your unused pocket change every month, you could support the life of this poor boy.…

I came to the United States from Colombia when I was just 3 years old. I was brought into the country of bright opportunities because like every other parent, my mother and father wanted what was best for me. My mother had to give up her dream job in Colombia, which was being an accountant for an essentially important company, in order to facilitate my well-being and open up the doors for my future. As the years progressed, I began to acquire both languages, English and Spanish, but there was a point where I became tongue tied and had to assist in speech therapy. My parents would talk to me in Spanish at home but in school all I would hear was English, my mind was extremely confused to the point that I made my own language by using both tongues in one sentence.…

I love the idea of writing about myself, and especially how I came to this country, the greatest nation in the world, United States of America. I’m Cuban, generally those who live there, for one reason or another want to leave the island and left behind the fake revolution. In my case I never thought it could happen to me or any member in my family, there was no reason in my mind for leave my roots and my love ones. But, back in 2000, my journey started in Havana airport to New Jersey, and after few months I ended up in Miami, where I live now with my beautiful family. It is a long history.…

The Dominican Republic, known for its beautiful beaches and balmy weather, was the last place I ever imagined I would find myself in this past summer vacation. On this week long trip, it wasn't for the warm ocean waves or the traditional Dominican cuisine I was called to, I was called to serve the beautiful Dominican people. On the third day of the trip, instead of heading out to the worksite where we had been pouring the concrete footers of a plastics and water filter factory, I opted to travel with a group to the childrens' cancer ward in Santiago and visit the patients. We started out our visit by performing a few dances we had taught our vacation bible school and handing out fun little gift we had brought with us. We played ball with some…

The place I grew up in could be considered above average. I had my friends that I would see every day and my family back at home. However, everything that any of us did would be over the top in every way possible. This became especially evident when my family and I would begin to plan a party or travel, this improvement of activities would be known as the “Mexican Way”. To be more specific, my family and I turned a normal New Year’s Eve party into a colorful and explosive fiesta. At first it seemed normal, we bought all the fireworks, started getting all the food ready for the party, and all my cousins and uncles started to arrive at my house; but as soon as it got dark everything started to get out of hand. As the first bottle rockets went…

Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, a place where tourists come from all over the country to enjoy the sun, the beaches, the islands, and the coral reefs. Puerto La Cruz was a getaway for a lot of people, just some place to go on vacations and have a good time, but for me it was my home. The spring of 2014, by that time every morning when you walk outside your house you can feel the sea breeze and even when it’s cold, you close your eyes and smile, because it warms your heart. Now if I close my eyes, all I can do it’s relive that moment over and over again. The moment when only six words coming from my mom’s mouth felt like a thousand knives in my heart and changed my life forever. “We’re moving to the United States”.…

This year, my first year in Color Guard and Marching Band, I’ve learned discipline and what it means to be a part of something bigger than me. Working with the other girls on guard, we work as a team to learn our routines and how to stay in sync with our flags which takes a lot of hard work and repetition. During our long, strenuous rehearsals, it is important to stay focused and pay attention to directions. By setting an example for the younger members, I hope to show them what it takes to be successful in what we do, because it cannot be done without a huge amount of commitment and pride to represent West and our Marching Band program.…

I dislike being asked “Where are you from?” because I do not consider myself from any specific place. I have moved around several times as a child, which has given me the opportunity to meet different kinds of people each from distinct walks of life. Being faced with the challenge of meeting new people has taught how to come out of my comfort zone at any given moment. The experiences I have had in life has caused me to become an outgoing, hardworking, and very multicultural person.…

One day, I was out with my family at a French bakery. As I opened the door, the sweet scent of baked goods entered my nostrils, an old man approached and he said thank you in a strong thick French accent. I asked the old man if he was French and he replied with “oui je suis français”( yes i'm French). I responded with “ Je ne suis pas français mais je peux parle français”( I'm not French but I can speak French) . His brown eyes widened and as his mouth slowly opened with shock, I gave him a small smile. He said he didn't expect to get a response in French and he asked if my parents were French I said no, my mom is from Mexico, so he asked how I knew French, then I explained that I take French in my high school. The old man said “Your French is excellent for you to not be a native speaker and you've developed the accent.”…

So far I have lived my life for twenty years and on February 2, 2012 will be twenty-one years of me living my life. When I look back on my life I think about how I got to where I am today. Also I think about all the people I meet, the places I been, and all the things I have done for myself and others weather it be good or bad. And everything I have done to make my life what it is today. My life started on February 2, 1991 when I was born at Magee hospital in Pittsburgh. I lived in the same house my whole life which is located in Munhall, Pa. I live with both of my parents who have greatly impacted the way I live my life, and also my grandmother who lived with us until she passed away when I was eighteen. When I was young I played sports and many things with my family and friends. I went to elementary school at a catholic school named St. Therese. Then I went to Steel Valley High School. After graduating high school I went to Saint Vincent College for two semesters but did not enjoy going to school there as much as I thought I was going to. I decided to transfer to Robert Morris University where I am closer to home and get to spend more time with my family and friends which makes going to college more enjoyable for me. I am going to be describing how I have chosen to live my life by explaining things that happened in my life and relating my life events to theories we discussed in class and what I have learned from the Rosenstand text.…
