Personal Narrative: More Than Pink
I have done a lot of things in my life that has taught me lessons. One of them is More Than Pink. More Than Pink is a summer program to inspire girls to stay true to themselves and live free from social stereotypes. I have participated in it for three years and I will be doing it again this summer. I believe people should accept themselves. A similar lesson was taught when I was disappointed in my body when I saw a thin fit person. I wanted to be like her, so on accident, I exercised too much. The next day, I was really sore and I hurt myself. I believe people shouldn't compare themselves to others. It affected me because now after going to More Than Pink (MTP), I like the way I look and I am stronger, physically and emotionally. It has …show more content…
I have realized to be the person I want to be, I need others to help me. If I found something about me I didn't like, I would try my hardest to fix it. When I would be on a three mile run, I would want to stop and give up. But the mentors (high schoolers and volunteers) would push me to the end and finish. Overall, teamwork is a big factor in becoming a better person. It has also affected me by my outlook on accepting my gifts. Some of my gifts include intelligence, love to read, faithful, like playing sports and with friends, indecisive, and more. I used to think I should keep changing myself till I am perfect. Then I realized that nobody or nothing is perfect. I try every day to make my gifts better. I practice being faithful and strengthening my relationships with my friends and family daily. I am the best person I can be. It has also affected me in another way. I think about other people doubt themselves. If everybody doubted themselves and based themselves off of others, the whole world wouldn't be satisfied with themselves and vthis world would be falling apart because nobody would be happy. Everyone would be sad and not one person would be confident in themselves. There is very few people that are confident in themselves and do a lot to maintain their look. I am happy that there is people in the world like that, that inspire others to love the way they

In order to be effective, a leader must have an unwavering passion for their projects. I have found through my time with The Pink Bowz, the more excited I become about something, the more excited everyone else becomes. However, when a leader loses enthusiasm for what they are doing, they set a bad example for their peers. I have personally failed as a leader before because I developed apathy towards a project, and my teammates began to adopt the same attitude.…

As I walk in through the swinging glass door of my grandparents house, the instant smell of fresh white baked bread hits me. The sweet dough crisped to golden-brown is now in sight. I see it sitting there, on the smooth kitchen table to the left of where I just entered. I know that as soon as I say hello a piece of it will be offered to me. As I continue straight into the open living room I notice my gray-haired grandpa sitting comfortably in his cushioned lazy boy rocker. With every slow rock he makes there is a slight creak that overpowers the sound of the Twins game on their T.V. On the crest of the same rocker lies his favorite dog, Lucy. Her white and black, furry belly expands and compresses at the same rate of the slow rock. My grandma,…

I remember that it hurt. It was if someone struck all the air out of my lungs. I tried with all of my might to breathe but it seemed as if I were incapable.I looked for something, anything to hold onto for support. Everyone watched in horror as I sank to the ground and the sob that was stuck in my throat escaped. I was feeling emotions I never felt before, that I didn’t know existed. The two Marines in Dress Blues who stood at attention looked on, their faces mostly emotionless, except their eyes which were filled with pity as they said they were sorry for my loss. My best friend rushed over the office to wrap her arms around my shoulders. The only way she could hold me seeing as I was on my knees crying into my hands. I could feel her sympathy,…

There has been many cases in which I have helped an outsider feel welcome. One time in particular is when I played tag with this little boy at church since he was new and no one else played with him. Originally, I was outside eating candy and talking to my friends at church. I noticed that this little boy was standing all alone watching all the other little kids play without him. I thought that maybe he was upset so I went over to him and asked if he wanted the rest of my gummy worms. He seemed nervous at first, but eventually he started talking to me. I learned that he was five years old and he was visiting his grandparents for the weekend. His older brother was outside playing basketball with some of the other older boys at the church, and…

My most significant experience in working as a part of team occurred when I was apart of the softball team. Without my teammates I wouldn’t have learned all that I know now about softball today. I was familiar with the softball players. We helped each other improve, whether it was with running, practicing drills, catching, or throwing. We never left a teammate behind. During practices we all ran as a team. During games we also chanted when the batter hit the ball. With out my team I wouldn’t have been as good as a softball player. So to me with teamwork come new friends and wonderful coaches.…

As a particularly curious and proactive member of society, I consider myself to be civically engaged; although the degree of engagement can be argued. Personally, I believe that small things make up the larger picture, so my engagement is mostly interpersonal, as small interactions can set of chain reactions. Speaking out on issues with (or to) friends, politely engaging strangers in conversations and presenting different points of view, and constantly seeking to better myself is how I remain aware and knowledgeable on current issues, and also how I continue to learn new things and refine my thoughts. Not everyone is born to take center stage, and so we must all strive to do what we can, even if it’s simply a few words of encouragement or a…

I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…

Today was the day. The big day. My election for Lieutenant Governor of Division 2B for Key Club, an international service club, was today. Fear and anxiety pricked my skin in rapid movements emanating from every pore. I rehearsed my speech for the fifth time that day. Upon arrival at the Fairfax Library, I urged myself to remain calm. I quickly scouted out the other girls who were present; one girl was dressed professionally with a folder in her hand. I knew that was my competition. The girl spoke eloquently and genially, she radiated enthusiasm and a certain warmth that I did not have. With every question that was asked, she answered with a smooth smile and high-pitched tone that was dripping with sincerity. I bristled inside; I had just been slapped. I was shrouded in a cloud of anxiety and anxiousness. Suddenly, I was dragged from my reverie.…

I love big people, they can be so cute. I remember when I first arrived. The bright lights, the welcome committee, with their ear-to-ear smiles beneath their surgical masks — magical — however, I did think the slap on the butt was uncalled for, but bless their hearts, they get so emotional.…

As a young child, I never really understood the concept of having a healthy racial identity. Racial identity was not a topic of conversation in school; however school and other factors have had major effects on my racial identity. I was not even familiar with what it meant to be a Black individual. When I was younger, I did not focus on being black or white, I solely focused on playing with other children. However, it was not until racist events began to occur did I begin to question my identity. Anyone would think that a child whom was raised in a family where racial pride is prominent would evidently grow into an adult that also projects this racial pride. However, distinct racist events, micro-aggressions, and other events have a major impact on how children and adults contract their racial identity.…
