Personal Narrative: Link Crew Leader
“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.”- John C. Maxwell. Those that “show the way” inspire others to do the same. For me, I was inspired by my family to be an ambitious leader who inspires other individuals. Through leadership activities, both at school and in the community, I am able to develop myself as a prominent leader. Also, being involved with Link Crew Leaders, sports and health clubs helped me aspire for my long-term career goals, as well as personal goals. My enthusiasm and motivation are what drive me towards these goals.

In my senior years, I was selected as an executive member for the Link Crew Leaders. Similar to welcome week representatives, this club helps students entering high school build a comfort level. As an executive leader my role was to set an example for the new students and other leaders; I also helped grade nine students cope with their exams, and EQAO. Certain tasks included staying organized to conduct activities, implementation of policies, help my team develop enthusiastic methods of interaction with the upcoming students, ensuring all activities and plans are running effectively and efficiently, and make decisions on future events and activities for the students. The skill set I developed through Link Crew directs me to my goal to become a CEO.

Our club grew with more members being recruited, which built my team communication skills. By implementing policies, I ensured that the swimming club ran effectively with minimal problems. My athleticism and leadership also motivates me to take part in the Terry Fox Run each year through my high school endeavour. This motivation will run through my university endeavour and will drive me towards achieving my personal goals such as running in a

At the most rudimentary level, a leader is someone who leads other. But what makes someone a leader? What is it about being a leader that some people understand and use to their advantage? What can you do to be a leader? A leader is a person who has a vision, a drive and a commitment to achieve that vision, and the skills to make it happen. These leadership traits are broken down further into seven beneficial habits in Sean Covey’s book “The 7 Habits of highly Effective Teens” and the fundamental base of leadership found in the 40 developmental assets. The main things that made Douglas a highly effective leader are family support, caring, integrity, school engagement, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win and synergize.…

In the end, link crew has subtly forced me to become a leader who strives to connect, encourage, and inspire positive change. Being a link crew leader has really helped me developed my questioning and relationship skills. I honestly feel like I have grown because of this program, and strongly believe that more people should become more involved in it. It is still amazing how this is the only program where everyone in the school is connected to it in some way. I am very glad that I became a link leader, and I will carry these values and memories with me throughout the rest of my…

“Real leadership is leaders recognizing that they serve the people that they lead.” This quote, spoken by Pete Hoekstra, speaks volumes to the true essence of what it means to be a leader. Leadership is all about the people. Many people incorrectly assume that being a leader means that the people you lead are there to serve you. This presumption could not be more inaccurate. Being a leader means serving your teammates and being worthy of their respect and cooperation. I believe that Hoekstra’s quote applies to all forms of leadership- from being a captain of a sports team to being a Lead Scholar.…

I would like to take the opportunity to be a link crew leader because of how the Link Crew affected me as a freshman. Not only did they answer any questions we had, but also as a sophomore I still find myself referring back to my link leaders. The feeling of knowing someone around you when you are in a sea of strangers is not only a helpful resource but also reassuring. My freshman year I learned that the link leaders obtain some very special qualities. Link leaders are fun, outgoing, determined, and consistent people and I believe I also have these characteristics. I can use these qualities to hold myself responsible for caring and tending to the needs of those younger than myself.…

People often ask me, “do you play basketball or volleyball? Because you’re really tall.” As a six-foot-tall girl, I find that people are disappointed when I tell them “no, not anymore.” I was always told by coaches and parents that “you have potential,” but basketball, much to my dad’s dismay, was not for me. I found that I had the potential to do something with my life, to be someone bigger than myself. My freshman and sophomore years, I did not want to be involved in my school. Rather I wanted to get in and get out and go to college. But all that changed when I decided I wanted to be a Link Crew Leader, at the time I did not know what it meant to be a link leader, I just knew I wanted to be one.…

Certain leaders have been through different situations in their pasts which give them experience in how to deal with the task at hand. A leader is confident at all times. Having confidence in the team makes the members of the team feel that they are believed in. When trusted, teammates are like brothers. Leaders are like the red skittles. It is sweet, but also bold. When a person may think of Skittles, the red color of the package is the main trademark of Skittles. The sweet sensation makes everyone want to eat the red one. Others strive to be leaders. Some may have had bad leaders in their past, which is a driving force as to why they may want to hold a leadership position. The leader is the red Skittle that almost every person likes, and every person needs that sweet…

To me, leadership is leading by example. My years in high school have shown me that the person who builds people up, and shows kindness is more of a leader than someone who commands and controls people. I strive to be this kind, caring person who others can look up to. As I grow older, I hope that by doing the right things, I can inspire others to do the same.…

A leader is a person who represents the whole class and motivate them. I did not believe I was a leader. During my freshman and sophomore year of high school, I was a quiet spoken individual who listens to what others have to say. It was not that I did not have anything to say, but it was the fear of saying something wrong and others disregarding what I had to say. I did several presentations in high school that made speaking in front of people more easier. However, I was still the timid person who wanted desperately to break my shell but did not know how. A shocking moment had occurred when I had became secretary of Zonta Club. It was junior year and I was surprised to have been part of the leadership team. I was able to discuss my ideas and to speak with the members at ease. It was my breaking point. I was given a privilege to be part of something that made a change. I was not just the soft spoken person, but I was a leader…
