Personal Narrative: I Do It At Homework
Slam! My teacher walked into the room and gave my friend a death stare. This day wouldn't just be any ordinary day in my sixth grade math class. My teacher taught us the lesson for that day and we got our homework and started working on it.
The teacher got up out of her chair and started walking around the room and seeing if we needed help or were stuck on a problem. Then, all of a sudden, she stopped dead in her tracks and stood still for a few seconds. Then she started talking to my friend saying, "Why haven't you done any of your homework?" and he said, "I can concentrate better when I do it at home." and the teacher thought this was so rude of him to say and was offended by it. The teacher then told my friend to go out in the hallway and

My personal learning style is doing. I learn best from the hands on approach of getting in to a topic or job and attempting to complete it on my own. This allows me to see my mistakes and not have them be prevented before they happen, which allows me to note the problem and fix it. I find it much harder to learn using concrete experience and reflective observation. The fact that both these styles are much harder for me to learn from effects my overall learning style because of how I learn, just watching someone else complete a task is not enough for me to learn by.…

My writing process is usually all over the place, I have to be in my room with my door shut, my music on, my fan on, and my television on, weird, I know, but that is what I have to do in order to keep myself concentrated. After I am all situated I begin by writing down different ideas on a couple sheets of paper, listing ways I could support this idea and how it relates to my topic, sometimes when I am stuck I look up sample essays online to help me out of my rut. Once I finally choose an idea I start writing the first things that pop into my head down on another sheet of paper, it usually ends up being a jumbled mess that only I can understand. Coming into her class, I never possessed a great amount of patience. One of the things that really frustrated me was when students constantly blurt random stuff out. This seemed to be some of the boys’ aptitudes in that class, because it seemed they never could hush up and listen. I don’t know if they just did not think and immediately said what came to mind or what, but I soon became aggravated.…

I thought it was going to be a normal day in first grade.. Boy was I wrong! We were learning about different plants and animals. And of course, insects. At the time, I went to an elementary school called Thunder Mountain Elementary, in Grand Junction. We were sitting in groups and the lights were off with the projector on. If I remember correctly, we were also taking notes. Our teacher, Ms. White was, well, teaching us. That’s kinda what teachers do. Maybe teachers do other things we aren’t aware of.. Nah. In second grade, teachers were like, Einstein and the smartest of mentors, not saying that people still don’t think that now. Teachers are awesome and have some of the best or worst stories to tell. But, before today, I didn’t really mind…

Thinking of creative ways on how to develop my paper is a strong suit I benefit while taking on a writing assignment. When given a topic to write about, I write down what comes into my head. I do not worry about the word count if the sentences make sense on paper or even punctuation. I write to avoid forget any important points I might have thought of. This method of writing is where my weaknesses show. Sometimes what I wrote makes sense in my head, but not on paper. Other challenges I face with writing assignments are time management and punctuation.…

“My heart is in the work.” That one, simple sentence embodies my passion for learning. As many people progress through school, they lose the desire and passion for learning. They see school as a routine they cannot wait to escape from. However, for me, my desire has only grown stronger. In my sophomore year of high school, I decided to transfer to a residential high school with a more rigorous curriculum to satisfy my need for an academic challenge. I wanted to experience a school where the content and quantity of coursework forced me to improve my work ethic and time management skills. I wanted to truly learn the material and have ample opportunities to apply it in various academic areas. Most importantly, I wanted to go through that experience…

I have always had struggles and difficulties when it comes to writing. This is due to the fact that English is not my first language, and that I am still learning. I started to learn how to speak, and listen, and mainly write in English when I was in ninth grade. Writing has been the hardest to deal with it, because I have many spelling and mechanical errors and most importantly, how to organize an essay, but this changed when I took English 49 with Professor Lucero. In my first day of class, I was assigned to write an essay about my experience with writing. I was not completely sure on how to start my essay and how to organize it. When I was in High School, I did not write many essays, and the few I did, I have endless help. So, I just my…

I was in 5th grade at Quail Valley Elementary (QVE). Our class was writing reports on animals. I was a stutterer, and had been since I was 3 or 4 years old. I had picked "Sharks" to report on. I knew I would have to read my paper aloud to the class when I turned the paper in to my teacher, Ms. R. Knowing that, I tried to make my paper as short as possible. Ms. R was a new teacher at QVE. Our principal was disabled, and couldn't walk, but she had no problem getting to each new teacher class and checking on the teacher. The principal would roll around to each class with one of the school's new teachers and just sit there on her wheels and watch the class. I had finished my Sharks report and we were sharing our reports. When it comes to my turn, I get up in front of the class, smack on my charm smile, and begin stuttering. Our principal rolls in and starts watching me. I can tell she is about to throw up from watching me stomp my feet and roll my head. Poor Ms. R. What will the Principal think of her now? One of her students can't even read. Unfortunately, my teacher didn't let me sit down. I had to sit there for 30 minutes and [try to] read my paper. I think finally she let me stop, the entire class was probably swimming in my tears by then. That was the most embarassing moment of my life thus…
