She thanks the instructor and walks to the advisement center to register for classes. As she waits to be called she feels her stomach growling. She barely noticed her hunger. She started imaging those tender, juicy chicken strips from Whataburger, with the salty fried fries, and the soft moist Texas toast with a nice cold Sprite. “Karla,” she snaps out of her world of food as soon as she hears her name and walks to the advisor’s office. The small office faintly smelled like the cologne her ex-boyfriend uses. She sat on a rough chair while the advisor registered her. After waiting a while, the advisor hands her a paper with the classes she’ll take and what time they start at. She walks out of the office feeling tired yet accomplished. She walks to the parking area where her family was waiting for her. She informs them that she was officially a college student and that she was very hungry. While the family heads to a fast food restaurant to celebrate, the young woman fills her mind of college thoughts. She feels excited to start something new and proud of taking another step into her…

The speech as long but informational. It was a familiar speech that I had heard every first day of school.
