Personal Narrative: I Am A Bystander
Although I am a bystander at times, I consider myself more so of a up stander when it comes to my loved ones. When I see people fighting, I try to keep to myself quietly. In the hallway, when I see a fight I walk around it.But if I see someone picking on my sister I get upset. If someone were to cuss at my little sister, I would step in and stand up for her. I also defend my friends. If someone hit my friend or did something rude and uncalled for, I would step up for them. In conclusion, sometimes I can be a bystander. But if it comes to my friends or family members, I am an up stander.

My insider/outsider partner was Alicia Garcia. As you can tell by her last name she is Hispanic. I don’t have many Hispanic friends and I am not use to their culture. Starting on the project Alicia told me a little a bit about her heritage. One of the things I asked her was, “Do you celebrate the day of the dead?” I know that might seem like a crazy question to ask, but I the only thing that I truly knew about her culture is what I seen on TV. Alicia said that they do celebrate it to some extent. They don’t actually go to a grave site and light candles for their fallen relatives, but instead have a feast in honor of them. Alicia is the first generation American Hispanic.…

The Bystander Effect is a social psychological phenomenon that refers to situations in which individuals do not extend any means of help to a victim when others are present. One clear cause that underlies the basis of this occurrence is the number of people or, bystanders, involved. While this argument forms the basis of the effect, I also believe that ambiguity, or in this case, the diffusion of responsibility amongst those present, plays a deeper role in the passivity of the bystanders. I believe that as the number of bystanders increases, they will each experience a diminished responsibility towards aiding the person in need and as a result, ignore or pay minimal attention to the victim.…

I just moved to a kid infested neighborhood. I was 18 so I had no interest in going outside and playing with the 12-14 year old kids. I thought it would be okay moving there, but they're so annoying, doing there kid stuff and writing skate boards which I've done myself and probably annoyed many people so I didn't tell them anything. Anyway my mom lives with me because step dad recently died. This house had been so weird, I don't know if it's me or like I said, the house. There's always weird noises and the weirdest part is that there is this rug that always appears in different places when I get home. My mom doesn't say anything about it because she has bad memory loss and always loses things. Someone needed to do something about this house or rug because i'm starting to get scared and lose it.…

There has been many cases in which I have helped an outsider feel welcome. One time in particular is when I played tag with this little boy at church since he was new and no one else played with him. Originally, I was outside eating candy and talking to my friends at church. I noticed that this little boy was standing all alone watching all the other little kids play without him. I thought that maybe he was upset so I went over to him and asked if he wanted the rest of my gummy worms. He seemed nervous at first, but eventually he started talking to me. I learned that he was five years old and he was visiting his grandparents for the weekend. His older brother was outside playing basketball with some of the other older boys at the church, and…

I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…

Each and everyday people walk the halls of this school. You see people walking on the streets in their neighborhood. They are all walking forward. Why? That is what is normal. We have been doing it this “normal” way since humans could walk. Baby's first learning to walk don't walk backwards do they? No, they are biologically programmed to move forward. I wanted the breaking of my norm to be obvious. What better way than to walk backwards and go “against the crowd”.…

One implication of The Topic of The Bystander Effect is that it refers to the phenomenon of individuals that are more likely to help when they are alone than when in the company of others. When it comes to the topic of The Killing of Genovese most of us will readily agree that Genovese’s murder has become “a kind of modern day parable of the good Samaritan, When it comes to the topic of The killing of genovese, most of us will readily agree that we strive for accuracy and fairness. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question That there’s not always a upstander in a bystander situation. Whereas some are convinced that They are imposing on us a duty to assist, provided we don’t put ourselves at risk, others maintain that Bystanders look the other way, ignoring the victims because we have no legal obligation to assist. In conclusion, then as I suggested earlier, defenders of Bystanding and Upstanding can’t…

As I was writing my personal narrative for my composition 1 class, it easily made my mind boggle. After I had got started on my personal narrative, it was easy for me to keep writing and keep following along the story line. The main strength of mine that the essay played to was my creativity and my flexibility for different writings, because I have never written an essay as serious and sad as this one, but I did have to add my happy ending when I finished the story. I wanted it to be very attention grabbing with a twist, but I also wanted it to be very emotional.…
