Personal Narrative Essay: No Carb Diet
Today wasn't so easy. I forgot I was on a no carb diet and I made half of a bagel. I took one bite of it and felt automatically guilt, then I threw away the rest of the bagel. Then for lunch I went to tropical smoothie, it was so good, For dinner, I went to Panera and had a salad. I noticed today that I spent 20 dollars on food and I wasn't happy because I’m already a broke college student. I felt full of energy today because the smoothie had protein in it which maybe me have a lot of energy.

Last year I was prit near 375 lbs and I knew something had to give. I have tried, low fat, low cal, counting macros and everything. I always still would gain! I would eat veggies and lean meat keeping under 1200 calories sometimes 800 when frustrated, I'd still wake up weighing more. Well to be honest, I believe the food pyramid is very, very inaccurate. I sometimes watch shows like my 600 lb life, for motivation for myself, because I need it still! I was to a point in my life I couldn't walk or stand more than 5 minutes! I'd have to sit on a chair to do dishes, I felt useless anymore honestly. One day something clicked and I seen a friend who posted about her 210 lb weight loss and started to read. I was blown away! I started it and I won't lie, I went out with a bang! Made a huge chocolate cake 13x9 and we ate half of it. I canned the rest. Within the first 3 days I was 5 lbs down! I couldn't believe it, without any exercise! People say oh you can't do that, but you can! You simply have to eat the RIGHT foods! 60% carbs isn't for us! That's what was set up by a group of people who think they know everything! They don't! But anyways if you want to learn how to eat the correct macros and learn to lose weight without worry, then this is for you! Ooh you have to give up some things! But tell yourself YOU'RE WORTH IT! I know what it feels like to hurt everyday and not be able to function and go out to the store cause you just cannot walk.…

In Defense of Food was quite shocking at first. In all honesty, it made me think I was going to die within the next week due to a heart attack triggered by all the junk I eat. Considering I myself indulge in processed cookies from the aisles of Stop and Shop, and steak tips that have been marinating in salt for two days, the film hit close to home. But in all honesty, I don’t eat that bad; in comparison to the Seventh-Day Adventists I do, but I think I’m doing alright.…

One of the challenges with most diets that are based on decreasing the total number of calories being consumed is sustaining a high metabolism. Our metabolism is responsible for burning through calories, but when the caloric content of our food is reduced, our bodies shift gears and decrease their calorie consumption. This results in that feeling of sluggishness and tiredness that is common among most dieters, meaning we become less efficient at burning calories. What a metabolic diet does is raise the metabolism to speed up the burning of calories, which equates to a faster weight loss rate. This method of dieting is much more effective than what essentially amounts to starving yourself. But if you are dieting to lose weight, how can you avoid…

A difficult situation that I have had to endure through was entering into treatment for an Eating Disorder. Although I have no regrets of entering treatment, the greatest challenge that I had to face was realizing that the rigid and pessimistic mindset that I possessed was slowly killing me and that the only way I could learn to let go was by accepting treatment with open arms. Prior to accepting help, I was physically and emotionally extremely weak and depressed. However, all of that self-imposed negativity was so much ingrained into my daily life that I had no idea how great an extent it was ruining my life. The lack of nutrition that I had in my body transformed me into a completely different person, a person that I do not even seem to recognize…
