Personal Narrative: All Basketball Players Remember The 2012-2013 NBA Finals
All basketball players remember the 2012-2013 NBA Finals. In the sixth game, San Antonio had a three-two series lead and were up three points late in the fourth. The Heat’s star, Lebron James, attempted to tie the game leaving twelve seconds on the board. He missed the shot and it seemed all hope had been lost. Then, in a matter of seconds, Cosh Bosh came down with the board and passed the ball to Ray Allen for the game tying three. Miami won the game in overtime and then won game seven, crowning them the 2012-2013 NBA Champions. You may question the significance of this story and wonder what kind of point I’m trying to make. So let me tell you this. Miami would have lost that game if two of their role player didn’t step up in the final seconds …show more content…
I could go into detail mentioning many different defensive skills like blocking shots, on ball defense, and stealing, to list a few, but I’ll sum it up like this. Shutting down or even limiting the abilities of the best player on the other team is a major key in becoming a great role player and could possibly boost you to a star performer. Like they always say defense wins championships and it may earn you a starting spot. As a defender you really need to know the player you’re guarding. If they can shot, guard them tight, if they can drive, give them some space. You probably won’t be able to completely shut down the best of players but it totally screws with the other player if they have trouble putting up points.

Basketball is a sport that is dominated by incredible work ethics and the practice of basic techniques. Not ever has a player truly become a star overnight and success is granted to only those who strive for it. In the words of Michael Jordan himself I quote, “some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.” Now I have only one question left to ask. Do you want to be the best player you can be? If your answer is yes then I urge to beyond belief that if you learn, live, and love these skills, I see no reason why you can’t be a great

Growing up with a dad who was All-State for Basketball, and a Grandfather who played Division I basketball; I was always expected to be good at ball. I was always decent but never quite lived to expectations. When I turned 12 years old, I was diagnosed with Type 3 scoliosis, which limited not only my quickness but my ability to twist and run normally. The basketball dynasty was coming to an end as I had lost a lot of athleticism. I was always on the middle team, not very good, not very bad, but I always tried new moves; which made me hard to guard. I finally quit all sports because my back couldn’t handle the stress, and I wasn’t prepared to go into surgery. One day as I was watching…

The intense roaring of the crowd gradually faded into the vast abyss of his mind. As the last seconds ticked away, his breath got heavier and he knew that it was now or never. He knew he had to make the shot, he could not just mess this one up. At that last moment when the ball left his hands flying into the air, time seemed to have slowed down as the buzzer went off simultaneously.…

This Basketball player was possibly the most devoted one to his game. When he was cut from the varsity team as a sophomore in college he stated, “I was angry, hurt, embarrassed, and ticked off, I spent that whole next summer in the gym working to get better. I had something to prove to myself.”(Looss, 25) Michael was very intense at practices. He made sure everyone gave it their all, or else he would push them around and talk trash to them. He remarked that he didn’t do it because that was who he was, but because he got very annoyed with people who came onto the court thinking it’s just a game or who simply thought that they were too good for the competition. Michael constantly worked on his game. An example of his constant training was when a photographer for the book Rare Air, called him at 9:30 in the evening and he was still lifting weights for the playoffs since earlier that day. Jordan admits that the influence of his parents, James and Delores, was the most important factor in helping him to achieve stardom. From them, he derived his renowned work ethic and inherited the competitiveness that had helped him to succeed.(Clary, 11) Jordan was not only dedicated to the sport, but to his physical health. He was once quoted saying; “I don’t mind administering machines or medicines to my body if it gets me ready to play. But I won’t . And I won’t take shots to cover the pain. I’ll do all the necessary work to help the healing process.”(Looss,…

It all began with a simple phone call one night after dinner. “Joe,” my father hollered up the stairs, “it’s for you. It’s Jackie, and she sounds upset.” As I came downstairs to pick up the phone, I was not happy. I was tired and had looked forward to a nice and quiet evening at home, not another stupid adventure with Jackie.…

On January 26th, I made a huge error in my basketball game against West Central. To anybody else, that game might have seemed unimportant- insignificant really. They were not a conference rival or a sectional team. To me however, this game was very significant because I used to attend that school. At that game, I played all of my friends from kindergarten to fifth grade. I hoped that I didn’t make a fool of myself. I hoped to do amazing so that all of my old friends would see what a great basketball player I had become. I hoped that I would make a play so amazing that everyone would remember it. While I would certainly not forget the play I made, it was not the spectacular one I had dreamed. My gym teacher- Mr. Prairie asked the class, “Who’s ready for the basketball game tonight against West Central,” and I wondered if I was. Because of my insistent worrying I could not manage to make a play through all of gym class (we were playing basketball)…

It was winter season and that meant basketball. This year was special because I got to play for Davidson Day’s seventh and eight-grade team. See at our school the middles school ran through 5th to 8th. The middle school basketball teams were divided into a 5th-6th-grade team and a 7th 8th grade team. This season was different; we would play more games and different teams. Also we got a new coach and older teammates. Tryouts were rough; the older kids were picking on the 7th graders constantly. I was the only one they liked because I was good. The season got even worse. The 7th graders never played in the games and sometimes in the locker room older kids would yell at us for messing up. This was horrible to watch and be apart of.…

The vibration of the basketball hitting the ground is the best feeling the world. Light was shining through the humongous windows onto the worn out gym floor like a flash light. The game took place on a cold, November afternoon in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It was the last game of the tournament and we, the CBS Falcons, faced the Red Dogs in the championship game. We were confident about our chances of victory; however, our confidence was quickly put to the test when we first saw the other team. This game taught me never again to judge a book by its cover and that effort can trump skill.…

On the 20th of October, 1998, the world was blessed with a talented basketball player. (That would be me.) Growing up, I didn’t really have reasons to like basketball. My family did not play or have interest in any kind of sport, besides for my father turning on the Lakers game once in a while. So my influence had to come about from a mishap. A mishap I am very thankful for. The television was playing the Lakers game in my living room one night when my attention was caught by an astonishing performance by a player wearing the number 8. Shot after shot he would score with emphasis, scowling after each basket. This player was arguably one of the greatest professional basketball players still to this day, Kobe Bryant. It was at this moment that…
