Personal Narrative: A Personal Experience In Professional Football
It all started back in 8th grade when I thought I could never get hurt or have a serious injury. It occurred when I was playing indoor soccer as I felt a pop in my knee. This left me scared and devastated lying on the court crying in pain.
I wake up on a normal November Saturday morning. My mom is yelling at me “get ready, you have your soccer game!” I am scrambling trying to find all my stuff because I forgot it was the first game of the season. I yell back down to my mom “give me 5 minutes”. I throw my shorts and jersey on and walk down the stairs just to find out I do not have indoor soccer shoes. I know am panicking more then ever and have to wear normal tennis shoes. My mom tells me I will be fine and to get in the car so I did and we

He sets the ball down and blows the whistle. I run up as hard as I can and kick the ball in the corner. The ball is bouncing around, but my teammate gets a handle on it and crosses it to me for my first goal of the season 5 minutes into the game! Then, it happened. I am so excited jumping around with my teammates as I hear a pop from my knee. I panic and I collapse to the ground crying. My mom comes onto the court and carries me off. She tells me we have to go to the ER as I refuse to move. She then forces me up and then off to the ER we …show more content…
We go down to her car together so she can help stable me. I am so scared staring off into a daze on the way there. We get to the hospital, and went to same day surgery to get registered. It seems to be taking forever because I just want to get it over with. The doctor finally calls me back and I prepare for my surgery. He takes me back to the operating room. I am scared, just looking around at all the different tools and equipment he has. He tells me to take 3 deep breathes into this mask, then I fell asleep, and woke up with everything done. It was a matter of an hour till I feel good enough to go home. The doctor said to me I could leave whenever I wanted, so as soon as he said that I got changed and out the door I go.
I am just walking to my mom’s car with crutches and I already hate it. The doctor signed me up for physical therapy the following week and it could not come soon enough. I continue this everyday for the next week, and then he said I should be able to walk on it and he was right! Everything ended up being perfectly fine and I am aloud to start my conditioning again in January!
This experience is definitely one I will never forget. It ended up teaching me a lot, such as to not take advantage of everyday events and to never give no matter what the circumstances

I waited out in the cold and snow for what seemed like forever. I eventually saw our car pull up to the park. I saw my dad and my brother get out of the car and hurry towards me. When they got to me, my dad picked me up and carried me to the car. We got in and he drove me home. Then he helped me get out of the car. The pain was so bad I had to hop to the door. Once inside our house, I hopped over to the couch, and laid down.…

The only problem was my phone, backpack, all my football gear was still at the field. I remember wishing my mom was here and soon enough my mom came into the room. I was so happy she came because I didn't know anyone there and it was scary being alone. Not a single coach came with me. After the doctors said that I am good to leave we soon left. The doctors said to not do any activities in a week. With that being I gave it a week but I should have waited some more time.…

Months passed, and they passed slowly. My passion for the game was gone because I wasn’t able to play it. I lost my skill, I gave up. I failed to do what I told myself I would, to comeback within the next couple weeks and to be okay. I ended up quitting soccer, I didn’t think I was good enough my scholarships were gone; no one knew my name anymore. And the worst part about it was I didn’t care. I was okay with letting go of my passion because I hadn’t interacted with it in so long. Playing for 12 years and giving up was hard at the beginning but it slowly got easier to do. My grades slipped because I didn’t have any…

When I woke up I didn't know what happened or where I was at the moment until the nurse told me when she woke me up and telling me that my surgery is all done and it went really well! I really don't remember much but I know I started to laugh when I saw a really big brace that started from my upper thigh all the way down to my ankle. It was really big and really heavy! I was out of the hospital a few minutes later after they took my vitals to make sure I was okay and all set to go home. Getting out of the bed was the worst part, imagine being really tired and loopy from the anesthesia and trying to lift your leg with a really big, heavy brace on your leg. On the way home I slept for the most part until I woke up and told my mom I wanted some chicken nuggets because I was starving from not eating all night and day. I got my chicken nuggets and went back to sleep.…

Although I have had many injuries growing up, there is one that particularly changed my life for the better. The injury occurred when I was playing eighth grade football. It was August and we were scrimmaging Westfield; a very good team that had a lot of big players. The coach called me onto the field to play fullback, which means that I was probably going to carry the football. As I was running onto the field my heart started to beat a little faster. I had a bad feeling about getting the ball. I thought that I was going to get hurt because on the play prior the fullback ahead of me injured his knee on a run. Everything went well for the first few plays, but on the fifth play the coach called a fullback run. My heart was racing, at the snap of the ball I ran ahead for about an eight yard gain, but on the way down I felt a horrible pain in my right foot. I ended up going to the hospital a half an hour later, the doctor said that I had multiple fractures (6 to be exact), possibly some torn ligaments, and a dislocation of a few bones. I really did a number on myself. The doctor claimed to me that I would be out for at least 6 weeks, which is over halfway through the regular season. The doctor also highly recommended that I go see a sports injury specialist, or a foot specialist.…

The ball fell into the hands of my teammate. First quarter flashes by. The game had been back and forth. Second quarter rolls around. There is six minutes and 12 seconds on the clock. I was standing at half court. One of the Todd County girls was taking the ball out, and we pulled our press on. She over throws the ball and it comes directly to me. All I could think was it is a fast break, so I need to push the ball up the court. I start dribbling the basketball. I could barely here the ball bouncing and out of nowhere I hear a teammate yelling my name. I look over and her girl had been screened, so she was wide open. I immediately quit dribbling and I plant my left foot in front of my right and I twist to my left to pass the ball to her. I felt something funny pinch in my knee, and I instantly fell down. The ball never reached my teammate, and it was picked up from an opposing player. I tried to get up, because I knew I had to rush down there to play defense. As I put all my weight on my right knee tears started to stream, and I realized I could not get up. The ref called a timeout, and Mr. Aaker walked out to…

While my mom and dad were making dinner, Nick and I decided to play soccer in the family room. Nick got the ball and I set up the goals and he moved the couches. In the first 10 minutes of the game we were tie 5-5, but then,” BOOM “, Nick accidentally pushed me into a flower pot! I thought I was fine, I turned around started playing and I saw blood dripping all over the floor. Nick started screaming and asked, “what happened!”. Nick said, “your eyelid is bleeding like crazy.” I ran to the kitchen. My mom starts screaming my dad got ice for my eye. Mom turned off the stove and we go in the car and went to the hospital. Nick was helping me get out the car, while my mom and dad were doing paperwork.…

It was a very intense surgery, and I was unable to play after it. This was another culture shock. My life felt like it had stopped because I was no longer able to say I am a high performance athlete. At that time I was unsure if I could even call myself an athlete. I never acknowledged pain until that point, so immediately I questioned both my physical and mental strength. I had to restart my life, I had to decide who I really wanted to be. But, I was not ready to give up. I tried with great effort to play again, going to every practice, going to physical therapy two, sometimes three times a day. I ended up hurting my elbow and having to go through more physical therapy and had the possibility of another surgery if I kept trying to play. Finally, I accepted that my playing career was over. I was able to remain apart of my high school team as a student coach. I never knew how selfish I was when I was playing. I felt like I was on a new team, meeting these girls for the first time. God works in amazing ways, even though it took physical pain for me to stop and realize what I was doing. I am so blessed that he gave me the opportunity to influence, and mentor these…

The issue at hand was never being able to enjoy the game of soccer again because I was unable to kick and handle a ball with my right foot, and more specifically, the inside of the foot which is arguably the most important body part for soccer. As there is no way around not using my right foot at all, I had to find other ways than actually playing the game. One day at Horsecreek Soccer Fields I was watching my little sister’s practice, and it was on that hot, summer day that I finally found what I was longing for for so long: an opportunity. Right as the routine scrimmage to signify the ending of a practice was to commence, Coach Holly asked if I would be able to help coach the practice alongside her. Not only did I coach that practice, but I have now been coaching my little sister’s indoor and outdoor soccer teams for two years now, and it has been an amazing couple…

Ever since my freshmen year of high school, football has been the only thing that has mattered to me. I was given the opportunity to dress varsity as a freshman and being around that atmosphere, being on a successful team was intoxicating, especially to me at such a young age. I loved every minute of it, and I knew I wanted to be the one out on the field making the plays I watched that whole year. I made it my goal from that year on, I was going to give everything it took over the next three years in order to be the best football player possible.…

It was one of the most painful injuries that I have ever gone through. It was almost the end of the school year with just two weeks of school left. My high school coach had told us that we can play in soccer class the next day if we brought our cleats. My teammates from my club team told me they weren’t going to bring their cleats because they didn’t want to risk getting an injury before the tournament that weekend. They told me not to play, but I wanted to so I brought my cleats the next day. It was a really nice day to get better and have some fun. We started playing the next day and it was going well and fun just like I would expect it to go. The next thing I see is that everyone starts getting competitive and arguing…

I was again told to do physical therapy, now usually they say 2- 3 weeks out, but what is coming around the corner? That's right, districts and state. Now being as determined as I should be I declared that I would be back and ready to play before districts. Friday night is the Kennesaw game and I will have to sit out on the side lines and watch my wonderful team play the game I love the most. Monday starts the RPAC which we will most likely be playing the two teams we have lost to early on in the season, and I will not be apart of the on court action that takes place. Knowing this breaks my heart in two, knowing that this chronic injury that keeps coming back at the worst times is keeping me from playing volleyball, can slowly kill someone. Now of course I will give 110% during my physical therapy so I will be ready to get back on the court right in time for the big games. But I am still scared that this weakened limb of mine will have other…

I was 14 years old and starting my freshman year of high school at Sentinel High in Missoula, Montana. It was a week after tryouts and to my surprise I had made the varsity soccer team. The first two games of the season I did great, with a goal and an assist, but the second half of the third game my knee “just gave out”. It was not very painful just a weird feeling more then anything. The team trainer made me sit out the rest of the game because we had a game the next day and I wanted to be healthy for that. The next morning during warm ups, I took my first shot and all of the sudden my left knee gives out and I hear a blood curdling pop and grind. This time it really hurt and I could not even put pressure on my left leg without it giving out. Luckily, our family friend, who is an orthopedic surgeon, was at the game. He then became my knee surgeon for the next three years.…
