Perseverance In College
You never no what's going to go wrong until it does. Now I know this may sound silly to some but for me this is a big complication. Reoccurring things that are bad always end up being worse as time goes on, if I do say so myself. Being unable to do something you love and waiting it out on the side line. The feeling you get when you feel unable to make progress in your complication and always end up right where you started. Reoccurring: happening over and over again. Let me start from the beginning, when I was in eighth grade I was playing a game of basketball, I came down wrong on my knee and heard a sharp pop. I finished out the game but went to the doctor a few days later. While I was there they examined my knee, I also had an MRI. Though …show more content…
I was again told to do physical therapy, now usually they say 2- 3 weeks out, but what is coming around the corner? That's right, districts and state. Now being as determined as I should be I declared that I would be back and ready to play before districts. Friday night is the Kennesaw game and I will have to sit out on the side lines and watch my wonderful team play the game I love the most. Monday starts the RPAC which we will most likely be playing the two teams we have lost to early on in the season, and I will not be apart of the on court action that takes place. Knowing this breaks my heart in two, knowing that this chronic injury that keeps coming back at the worst times is keeping me from playing volleyball, can slowly kill someone. Now of course I will give 110% during my physical therapy so I will be ready to get back on the court right in time for the big games. But I am still scared that this weakened limb of mine will have other …show more content…
The doctors give me the same stretches to do over and over again because that is there job. I know I am not a doctor but I feel like all that I do for this limb, it just rewards me with more pain. Sometimes I give up on trying to help it and let it suffer a little but in the long run it does not seem to work that way. As I do my exercises I've done hundreds of times, I think is this really going to help, or am I just going through the motions. As I conclude things can turn out worse in the end then they started, if you do nothing for it. Even though it may be recurring things still can be done to change the total outcome. Even though I will be sitting out during the next few games, I am going to cheer on my team with all my heart. I will not let my weakness stop them from achieving their goals. When you end up back where you started know some progress has been made and if you keep working great outcomes will eventually

    Although I have had many injuries growing up, there is one that particularly changed my life for the better. The injury occurred when I was playing eighth grade football. It was August and we were scrimmaging Westfield; a very good team that had a lot of big players. The coach called me onto the field to play fullback, which means that I was probably going to carry the football. As I was running onto the field my heart started to beat a little faster. I had a bad feeling about getting the ball. I thought that I was going to get hurt because on the play prior the fullback ahead of me injured his knee on a run. Everything went well for the first few plays, but on the fifth play the coach called a fullback run. My heart was racing, at the snap of the ball I ran ahead for about an eight yard gain, but on the way down I felt a horrible pain in my right foot. I ended up going to the hospital a half an hour later, the doctor said that I had multiple fractures (6 to be exact), possibly some torn ligaments, and a dislocation of a few bones. I really did a number on myself. The doctor claimed to me that I would be out for at least 6 weeks, which is over halfway through the regular season. The doctor also highly recommended that I go see a sports injury specialist, or a foot specialist.…

Over the next few weeks, I went for treatment which consisted of electrical stimulation therapy, and at least 15 minutes of Active Release Therapy, which wasn’t comfortable, to put it mildly. Although I consistently continued this therapy for two months I was not getting any better. My mom said not to be too disappointed and that we would find another doctor that could help me.     After a couple weeks dwelling on the sidelines I came into conversation with a few teammates which I never would have if it was not for my injury. Repeated conversations with these players every day put growth into my personality and attitude towards the team as a whole. By only talking to these teammates they made it clear what it meant to be a true team player. My eyes were opened which allowed me to see how I was acting around my team before my injury occurred.     It was a normal feeling Friday when I woke up on January 26th, 2007, but little did I know this would be the biggest challenge that I have ever had to face. “Ring….ring…..ring,” the school bell rang deafeningly through the gymnasium. It was first period, and the first class on my agenda for the day was my personal favorite, “P.E.”, short for Physical Education. The class started out with our muscle-loosening stretches, and then moved on to one of my all-time favorite sports, basketball. The sparkling, brand new “Kobe Bryant 8’s” were a necessity for my feet in order to play. As I was tying the knots to begin, my best friend Ryan Decker glided swiftly into class with his “Heely’s”, which are shoes made with a wheel incorporated into the sole of the shoe. What did I do, when I first spotted them? I asked him if I could try them on and roll around the gymnasium, because the slick floor provides a perfect surface for rolling around on. As I was rolling around, a basketball rolled in between my feet. I stared at it, and thought about it for a couple seconds. I thought to myself, “How cool would it be to roll from one side to the other, then shoot a layup right into the basket?” Step by step, glide by glide, I was gaining speed. “BOOM!” Before I could even comprehend what happened, I glared down at a surging pain that vibrated through my whole body, mainly sourcing from my left ankle. My ankle was completely turned backwards. I frantically yelled out to my instructor, “MY ANKLE IS BROKEN!” As he sprinted over to the other side of the gymnasium where I was laying in agony, I could see an audience starting to gather.
