The reason my academics aren’t going well as you or I would like is because of the several family issues I’ve had to face during my high school career. It began my Sophomore year, I found out my mom needed surgery in her arm so the chances of her cancer spreading would be reduced. I was under a great deal of stress worrying about my mother, taking care of my four siblings making sure they knew everything was going to be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself. It was all up to me; while my other brother worked to help with bills, my mom being in the hospital, and my dad working. Taking care of my siblings consisted of cooking, homework, cleaning, nightly routine, and putting them to bed. When the work was done it would be around 10 o'clock. It was already tough to buckle down and focus on homework without all the stress. With all this my first semester grade was less than great.…

Let's face it: We've all taken jobs just to have a job because some money is better than none. I've held an assortment of these jobs and was grateful for the paycheck that meant I didn't have to share my Cheerios with my cats. In the big pizza wheel of life, sometimes you're the hot bubbly cheese and sometimes you're the burnt crust. It's good to remember the fickle spinning of that wheel.…

Life can be a treacherous journey that even the toughest people have trouble making it through. No one, not even the greatest superheros can get through it alone. We all need some sort of mentor. Someone like Mr. Miyagi was to Karate Kid and Athena was to Odysseus. I am no different, a mentor’s job is to lead and guide you through whatever life throws your way. My mentor has done that and much more. Normally it seems most mentors either come from different ethnicities or cultural backgrounds but, not in this case. Me and my mentor share a ton of the same characteristics and traits. Although he is older and much more wiser, we are still close enough in age to experience and enjoy some of the same cultural activities. One of them being checking…

I am intrigued by the music industry major at Drexel because I e always dream of a career in the music industry. I've heard nothing but great things about this program, which gives me reason to believe that it's the best place for me to develop the skills and prepare me for my future. During the summer I was able to lead a group of incoming freshman and enhance their confidence towards their first year of high school. Before I led the group of underclassmen, I had a two day training in how to become a great leader and know how to express my skills. As a leader, I showed many skills such as communication, leadership, and patience. I served as a mentor to these fifteen freshman by giving them advice and encouraging them to get involved. I played activities with them which represented challenges which will be faced through high school as well as lessons which boosted their confidence to communicate with each other. For instance, the game team juggling they had to attempt to juggle countless paper balls which represented how busy high school will be with new challenges and responsibilities.…

A passion is a strong and barely controllable emotion. What am I passionate about? I am passionate about achieving my goals they are very important to me. They are not just goals that don’t get me anywhere, such as growing my hair out or learning how to do a certain makeup look. I don’t just get rid of the goal if I think I can’t do it,I try my hardest to meet that goal and make more goals that I can carry out. They are not just school based ,but also they may be based on how my lifestyle is and how I make it better. Also , I had made goals in the past based upon eating healthier and maybe…

Throughout all my years as a high school student, I aspired to do something extremely beneficial to my community. Volunteering here and there for various clubs did not fulfill this ambition. After attending various programs that encouraged active initiative, such as UNC Catalyst Conference and NC Governor’s School, a self-realization occurred that urged me to finally be a “catalyst for change.” I am now the founder and manager of a student-based nonprofit called Musicians United to Support Incredible Causes (M.U.S.I.C.). The objectives include assisting the disadvantaged, benefiting higher level organizations, and expanding the reputation of music education.…
