They have seven programs that simultaneously educate the community about the hunger problem in Georgia, and they also make sure that people throughout Atlanta are being fed. These seven programs include Atlanta Prosperity Campaign, Atlanta’s Table, Community Gardens, Hunger 101, Hunger Walk/Run, Kids In Need and Product Rescue Center. I had the opportunity to participate in two of their programs, which were the Hunger 101 program and the Product Rescue Center. I was first introduced to this organization by volunteering for their Hunger 101 program. This program was very enlightening, and it inspired me to make a difference in my community. This program entailed an interactive group session that educated the volunteers about the hunger problem in Georgia. The volunteers participated in a workshop where we were given the role of being a less fortunate person for a day. We were given this person’s income, how many people lived their house, and all the expenses that they had to pay for. We had to use those values to calculate how much money that person has to spend on food per day. I discovered that most of these people had no more than three dollars to spend on food for their whole family in one day.…

The Kansas Food Bank in its mission statement promises to provide a comprehensive and compassionate Hunger Care whenever and wherever it is needed to families in Kansas. As a result of their mission statement, their operations have improved over the years and have grown tremendously to now serving over 85 counties within the state of Kansas, which includes over 530 hunger relief partners. Over 11 millions pounds of food was distributed just this past year. Deliveries are made to the different schools and agencies based on needs and the delivery schedule is clearly planned out by KFB administration. There’s no sign of stopping as they currently have a five-year plan that includes five more counties. This plan will be rolled out on a yearly basis for the next five years. This will add to the current distribution of 11 million pounds of food on a yearly basis. One would imagine that an operation of this magnitude and being done on a weekly basis would require more labor hours and truck space to carry out this massive scale of operations. To our surprise, they only have one truck and one driver that delivers all this amount of food. So there lies the bottleneck of this operation: they have enough food to deliver to the clients and enough clients to receive the food, but not enough manpower hours and truck space to do all the deliveries within a decent amount of time. Some of the delivery routes can take up to three days to complete. What if the truck breaks down and repair takes more time to fix than what was anticipated? What if the driver falls sick and is off for days? What would happen to the delivery operation? It was clear to us that they were putting all their eggs in one basket, in this case, one truck and one man. We were told that the driver is on the verge of a burnout since he’s been doing the deliveries all by himself for such a long time. Having to do all the deliveries by himself in a short amount of time, one can imagine the stress…

This e-mail is in reference to the two employees who are going to be terminated Friday. We have determined that they are Nicole Stone and Lorenzo Torres. As we discussed yesterday, their performances are not on par with those of other employees in the accounting department; interventions with these employees have not been successful in helping them improve their performance. Let’s plan to meet with them individually in the conference room between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m.…

Not only are we collecting for a great cause and need, we are also collecting to see Pastor wear some great Steeler’s gear. What was surprising to me was when it says “Restaurants are among the biggest sources of food waste in the United States, where up to 40 percent of food goes uneaten.” That’s a lot of food so it makes some sense that Starbucks one of the biggest food chain in America would want to decrease that number. It also says “Now, it says the rollout of the Starbucks FoodShare program will be complete by 2019, two years ahead of schedule.” That shows Starbucks really does want to make a change because there two years ahead of schedule and that means even more food is being donationed to charities. The people in America need these donations because it states in the text “At the same time, nearly 15.3 million children in the U.S. lack regular access to…

Communities getting involved in helping each other would overcome many of the obstacles they are facing. Talking to local organizations, churches, and local officials would benefit in implementing a program that brings people together optimizing the use of local fresh food resources to diminish the struggles they face. This variety of people providing additional ideas and support for a program to help out underprivileged individuals and families facilitate their nutritional needs makes the possibilities endless. Volunteers from local organizations and churches could provide creative assistance from experience in their diverse backgrounds. Using larger programs as an example such as “Let’s Move,” can show rural citizens what this program is accomplishing by solving similar issues in other areas of the United States. This example can supply a small community in West Virginia with ideas and even financial support from the Healthy Food Financing Initiative. The Healthy Food Financing Initiative provides funding to help supply underserved communities with fresh food (Let’s Move, n.d.). Since Let’s Move focuses on working together and self-reliance, it could only benefit a rural community to ask for funding on starting a program that involves communal gardening and hunting wild game to promote self-sufficiency. There are other options for funding such as local businesses,…
