Pediatric Nursing Research Paper
The areas of nursing that interest me the most are critical care, pediatrics, and cardiothoracic nursing. I really enjoy working with children, and I love the pace and intensity of the intensive care unit. My dream job will be in the pediatric intensive care unit. Another reason I love working with children is that they are so resilient. To me, they fight so much harder than adults. I also am very intrigued by the cardiovascular system. It is fascinating how every body system works together and the heart is the pump needed to sustain life throughout the entire body. I think eventually I would like to work as a pediatric cardiothoracic nurse. I want to start as a pediatric ICU nurse and then train to cardiothoracic. I like learning …show more content…
Dr. Betz and a group of nurses in leadership started this affiliation. The Society of Pediatric Nurses has a mission and vision statement along with core values. I think that it would be important to join an affiliation related to pediatrics to remember why you, individually, as a nurse, decided to work with pediatrics. Pediatrics alone is a specialty that is difficult and definitely not for everyone. In pediatrics, the nurse not only treats and cares for the patient, but he or she also cares for the family (parents, caregivers, siblings). The vision is to be a resource for patients and their families. The mission is to develop and improve the specialty of pediatrics in regard to education, practice, and research. The vision statement is that the pediatric nurse is the leading resource for patients and their families. The core values are similar to those of nursing in general. The core values of the Society of Pediatric Nurses are commitment, integrity, leadership, and excellence. Commitment relates to committing to continuing education, improvement, and advocacy to excellence in pediatric nursing. Integrity is another aspect of nursing that is really important not only in pediatrics but in any field of nursing. Being humble, transparent, ethical, and respectful are also significant and crucial aspects of nursing. Many of the beliefs of this …show more content…
I have already used this journal in my research class as a starting point for finding areas or ideas in nursing that interest me. This journal explores almost every aspect of nursing. Continuing education hours are also available through this journal. I think it will be important to have a general journal in regard to nursing and evidence-based practices throughout all aspects of nursing. The AJN has free articles available for the public or full-text articles that are available to members only. The journal comes out monthly and covers a variety of different topics. The sections of the journals include editorials, letters, viewpoints, what’s going on in the news, aspects of nursing, and featured articles. The articles selection is broad which makes the journal practical for any field in nursing. The articles in the journal are evidence-based. I think this journal will be useful because you can read it monthly or you can search by a specific

Recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine that Advanced Nurse Practitioners provide cost efficient treatment and as competent as physicians. However, physicians and Advanced Nurse Practitioners have different roles but complement each other in patient quality care. Advanced Nurse Practitioners role in the 1960s and 1970s due to a shortage of primary care physicians in underserved areas, especially rural areas. I just don’t understand how come now it is a problem for Advanced Nurse Practitioners to practice as independent. They rush them through the double doors, the parents want to come with them to see what's wrong with the their 3 year old daughter, but the receptionist stops them and tells them they have to sit down and wait just like everyone else. The mother starts crying and the father tries to calm her, she starts crying even louder because she's scared. I soon realized that a few of my future dreams were unrealistic or did not interest me as much now as they did when I was younger. Pediatric nurses involve them in interacting with patients that vary in illnesses and age, requires them to have strong communication and numerous years of education and training.…
