Recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine that Advanced Nurse Practitioners provide cost efficient treatment and as competent as physicians. However, physicians and Advanced Nurse Practitioners have different roles but complement each other in patient quality care. Advanced Nurse Practitioners role in the 1960s and 1970s due to a shortage of primary care physicians in underserved areas, especially rural areas. I just don’t understand how come now it is a problem for Advanced Nurse Practitioners to practice as independent. Ken Miller, the AANP Co-president stated that 70% of patients are supportive of NPs to have more responsibilities in a statement she made last…

As a Medical Assistant, it is important to have the office ready before patients arrive, which includes; listening to phone messages from the night before, going over the patient schedules, having the patient charts organized and ready, filling out any paperwork needed for the day, and having patient rooms cleaned and prepped (eMedicalAssistant, 2012). It is important to have a well organized staff to complete the morning duties because, time goes by quickly and it may become overwhelming without completing these five duties before patients arrive.…
Patient X is a thirty-eight-year-old male with type one late onset diabetes, which is technically called latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA). I chose to interview this person because sadly diabetes is one of the most common incurable diseases of today’s time. I think that the public should know more about this disease and the personal struggles that go along with it. Many new developments have been discovered in the scientific community as it concerns diabetes. “It’s becoming clearer that Type 1 diabetes can occur at any age and sometimes occurs in people who are overweight. In addition, another type of diabetes, called latent autoimmune diabetes in adults, or LADA, that shares some characteristics with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, has been recognized. Muddying the water further is the realization that…
Patient satisfaction is critically important to the health care industry today due to the competitive nature of the field. Patients have many choices when it comes to seeking medical attention, and hospitals are dependent on return business to stay operational. Hospitals have traditionally utilized the semi-private room model in order to increase profitability. A semi-private room is a room shared by two patients. Each patient is given their own bed, but they usually share a single bathroom. Unfortunately the financial practice of using semi-private rooms comes at the expense of patient satisfaction. Research has shown that private rooms increase patient satisfaction, because of the decreased likelihood of nosocomial infection, a quieter…
The Patient Self-determination Act is an act that give individuals the right to make their own choices about their medical care. This act was passed by United States Congress in 1990 as an amendment to the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990. The PSDA was effective on December 1, 1991, PSDA required that facilities such as hospital, nursing homes, home health agencies, hospice providers and other facilities provide information about advance health care directive to adult patients when they get admitted to the facility. This paper is about the Patient-Self-determination Act and it will also discuss more about advance health care directive.…
The purpose of this discussion is about what nursing informatics vs clinical informatics. Two ways that I use clinical informatics at university hospital are the Alaris pumps and computerized library for patient education material. Two ways that nurse managers can use data to improve patient care would be HCAPS and surveys on how well we do to prevent urinary tract infections. President Bush made the mandate in 2014 to help improve quality care to low income patients. Clinical Informatics is a broader scope of nursing that collects date and uses the information to provide better patient care.…

Across the healthcare system there are universal themes that can be applied to several fields of medicine, such as ambition to make a difference, maintaining effective communication, and overcoming obstacles that one encounters throughout his/her career. Six University of West Florida students procured six individual healthcare providers and performed semi-structured interviews with the professionals in order to gain insight into the patient-provider relationship. Five of us interviewed providers in the field of nursing, while one us interviewed a provider in the field of pharmacology. Within the domain of Nursing, our professionals included: a lead RN in the field of cardiovascular/thoracic surgery, a RN that works in the oncology department, a trauma RN who works in the emergency room, a RN who specializes in labor and delivery, a RN midwife, and a pharmacist. While both the midwife and pharmacist practice privately, all the RNs interviewed practice in a hospital setting. In the interest of length, the authors of this paper concluded that there were three characteristics most important to those interviewed: Why they chose their career, communication as a healthcare provider, and obstacles faced. In conclusion of these…
Informatics is the art of computer information structures. Clinical informatics is the use of information and technology, to deliver care and offers patients the ability to observer their wellbeing (Levin, Harper, & Barr, 2015, para. 3). In comparing these two areas, they are linked. There is no way to offer clinical information to patients or providers without having informatics.…
The provider should smile to make the patient feel comfortable and welcomed. Smiling alone can go a long way to making people feel good. The provider should make eye contact when speaking to the patient. Instead of using medical terms that most patients do not understand, the provider should use language that is on their level and what the patient can understand. The provider can have their office feel warm and welcoming so that patients feel comfortable. If a provider can be on a personal level and open up to the patient, it could encourage them to communicate easier. The provider can make small talk to make the patient feel at ease to feel comfortable to open…
A patient’s eligibility of health benefits must be determined before an encounter with a physician takes place.
