Patient Identifiers: A Case Study
The nurses on the obstetrical (OB) unit used two identifiers when providing patient care. The nurses asked the patient to state full name and date of birth and check the wrist band of the patient and compare it to the MAR. The nurses also used medication safely by labeling IV bag, cross checking the medication to the MAR, using patient identifiers, using the six rights, three checks, and providing information to the client on the use of the medications. Another patient safety goal the nurses initiate is the alarm system. The newborn is fitted with an ankle alarm band. If the newborn is carried to close to the exit doors, an alarm system will be initiate. This causes a lock down of the OB unit. All doors will automatically lock, no entry or
