Please explain in 750 words or less why you want to come to PASS Program *
As an immigrant of Nigeria in these United States I have and always strived to become something great- this is my motivation to acquire knowledge and equip myself to make a positive impact in my community and society at large. This is why I chose Medicine as a career path after completing my undergraduate degree. Having taking the NBME comprehensive exam twice this year 2014, I am convinced that I need more structure to my studying techniques for the USMLE step 1 program. I discussed my fear and concerns with fellow colleagues and advisors at my medical school and they recommended the PASS program. With extensive research and inquires, I was able to understand that the PASS program not only guarantees success in my pathway to passing and doing well on my board exam but also gives me a better understanding to putting all the concepts I have learned in my first 2 years of medical school and applying this concept to understanding the questions that are being asked. I am determined to put my best into this program and making use of all available resources in order to achieve a great score that would make me competent and confident to gain acceptance to a program of my choice and overall becoming a competent doctor. I really commend the PASS program for the opportunity they give to students through this scholarship and I believe I am a good choice for this scholarship because I am able help myself and my family in terms of cutting cost in my pursuit to excellence.

I consider myself a disadvantage student because 14 years ago, I immigrated to the United States with my family from Nigeria. It was a transition that was made to enable my parents to attain a better life for me and my siblings. However, these opportunities have not come easily. My siblings and I have struggled with balancing full time jobs with our education with hopes to assist our family in making ends meet. I am a living example

In this article Ecklund discussed how difficult it is to continue education without support. Ecklund expresses how minority and first generation student come to a bit of a disadvantage with social anxiety. She added that some students demonstrated resilience if their guardians were clearly not involved with academic achievement. The results of this article were if a student holds a strong relationship between self, school, and family than it would be harder for a minority student to fail out. However, if that balance shifts it than the student may start to stumble. Leading to lack of ambition to…

Furthermore, I have been studying extensively to retake the Medical College Admission Test in January 2017. I have also assisted many of my students to prepare for the NCLEX, OAT, and PANCE with 100% pass rate. Moreover, I have shared my own failures in the MCAT to help others not to repeat my mistake; a very humbling experience. I believe I have gained some transferable standardized test knowledge to prepare better for the MCAT. However, I am aware that my MCAT score history is not favorable and I believe that I need to prove that I will be a successful medical student who can also pass each Licensure Board Exams, thus why I chose to pursue this degree from your prestigious Biomedical Science program. I am strongly convinced that becoming a student in this program will academically prepare me and also prove to admission committees that I will be a successful medical student. In addition, I would also like to gain more research exposure and understanding of the uniqueness of an Osteopathic Medical School apart from the shadowing and research I have…

Albert Einstein was an incredible wise man. He once said "You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else.” This quote has been applicable to me life since I began high school. Large amount of my peers, including myself, became tense; to have a high enough GPA, several hours of volunteer work, best test grades, leadership, and enough extracurricular. Even though, I had many of the same worries I had one enormous anxious situation: How will I afford college? Living in Georgia, if you go to an in-state school you are offered HOPE scholarship if you meet the requirements. As a hard-working student I was eligible for the highest HOPE scholarship, Zell Miller. Zell pays for your entire college tuition,…

Some students are considered “disadvantage” and most of them are the minority. Allan Bakke was rejected from a school on two occasions even though he had a higher GPA, benchmark score, and a higher medical entrance exam score than the specially admitted “disadvantage” students. When a student was not accepted into law school due to his race many people began to point out and discourage the special admission process (Phillips…

My urge to a higher education will lead the way to a successful career and possibly a beautiful home in a good community. I will also be able to set a good example for my little sister and my nephews and nieces. Having them realize that although our family has struggle for many years due to these intuitions that oppress us there’s always a way around it. I feel privilege in a sense because the struggles that my older family members went through were lived experiences that made me stronger and strive for a better outcome. The endless nights that my parents worked to provide me with food and shelter has kept me alive long enough to change history. I have also come to realize that these forms of Institutional Racism exist on many levels. The fact that we were redlined and segregated from good neighborhoods with lack of proper resources leads my brothers to dropping out of school. Forcing them to work at fast food places living check by check causing stress upon which lead them to gangs. Which eventually had them in jail facing time due to these forms of…

    Be Great Scholarship

Being “great” like many other adjectives used to describe an individual is a subjective term. That means that great for one individual might not be great for another. This is similar to how successful for me would be to take care of my mother and father, while success for another would be to make a six figure salary a year. For me, being “great” is doing just that little bit more that separates you from the competition. A quote that I am reminded of is by Art Williams that says “The difference between average and ordinary is so small that it’s scary”. I wholeheartedly believe that he is write in saying this. A person can be successful at 99% of the things that they do in their lives and still not be great. However,…

Scholarships were made to help students and support them with things like payment while they are in college. For me, I have been in the USA for almost two years and one of the reasons that made me come here that it gives great opportunities for students who work hard. Because being in a developing country does not support students, especially if they are poor. I was so happy when my family and I got the immigration to the US and started to have some hope that I can fulfill my dreams which is to be a successful engineer.…
