Outside of Pythagoras’s extraordinary math discoveries, he led a dedicated and interesting life. Pythagoras was born around 570 BC to Mnesarchus a wealthy merchant living on the Greek island of Samos. In 530 B.C. he moved to the Greek colony of Croton, there he formed his own philosophical school, known as the Semicircle, where he taught exemplified a clean and well-developed life, otherwise known as the “Pythagoras way of life.” Due to a conflict in a nearby colony of Sybaris, many Pythagoreans, those who were known followers and believers of Pythagoras, where forced out of their home city and moved to present day Basilicata, where he would end up spending the remainder of his life.
