Aim
To introduce Equality & Diversity and how it can affect the workplace
Objectives – by the end of the session the group will: • understand what ‘Equality and Diversity’ means
• identify ways that people are different
• show an awareness of personal assumptions and attitudes
• understand differing types of discrimination

Equality & Diversity
• Equality and Diversity is the current term used for ‘Equal Opportunities’.
• It is the legal obligation to protect against discrimination. • Discrimination can be against a person’s sex, gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion, belief, race or age.

The one broadly classified under “observational techniques” which can utilise methods such as direct observation of people in a certain place at a certain time and the collation of data through a tick box method counting style or it could involve questionnaires whereby willing bystanders or passers-by are questioned and the results recorded. This sort of data collation can be undertaken by a number of individuals which spreads the base area from which the data can be collected. Different events, venues and places can be researched in this way, large or very specific.
