COURSE OUTLINE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION SCHOOL YEAR 2013-2014

Course No. : BA 10 (Credit units = 3 Number of hours per sem. = 54)
Course Title : Total Quality Management/Production Management

Course Description

This course tackles the nature, scope, functions, and importance of production/operations management in business. It includes discussion on productivity, competitiveness, strategy, Markov analysis, forecasting, decision theory/making, location planning, facility layout, linear programming, project management, inventory management, and just-in-time systems. It also introduces the various elements and analysis of the basic concepts in total quality management which constitute management of quality, product and service design, and supply chain management.

Cases and situational analysis will also be used to illustrate the basic production and operations concepts and tools commonly used in business firms. Actual visitation and observation by the students to at least one manufacturing firm and one service firm will also be required in order for them to appreciate the theories and tools they encountered in the classroom.

Course Objectives. During and at the end of the semester, the students will be able to:
1. define quality management, production management, productivity, competitiveness and Strategy, Markov analysis, and enumerate the functions of business organizations;
2. acquire knowledge about technical considerations and develop their computational skills necessary in the corporate decision making process;
3. discuss and explain the importance of location planning, linear programming, project management, and facilities layout in making decisions in every organization;
4. explain,
