People who go down in history as Influential people, gain their title by showing great acts of courage. It doesn't take anything special to be known as a hero. The men and woman who made a difference have risked and dedicated their lives. Today they are praised not only for their accomplishment but also their outstanding acts of courage.
Oskar Schindler, a German who joined the Nazi party, is a name that symbolizes courage. In his lifetime, he saved the most Jews from unnatural deaths in World War 2. Schindler owned a concentration camp that also served as a factory. For Brooke Axtell, speaking out the truth of her past took all the courage she had. Axtell is a human rights activist, speaker and artist. Axtell also suffered from being a victim of human trafficking as a child and domestic abuse as an adult. In her speech about her abusive relationship at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards she said to the audience, "I was terrified of him and ashamed I was in this position. What bound me to him was my desire to heal him." Axtell had to overcome this fear by speaking out and getting help. Axtell no longer let shame keep her silent, her empowering speech brought the crowd to tears. Axtell is now the Director of Communication and Survivor Leadership for Allies against slavery (a non profit organization dedicated to end human trafficking.). Axtell also created a healing community that helped survivors of human trafficking, rape and abuse. Her bravery gave a voice and the chance to heal for all the people who have gone through the same torture as Axtell had.
