Oro Valley Music Festival Analysis
The Oro Valley Music Festival is an annual event held in Tucson, Arizona at The Golf Club at Vistoso in Oro Valley. This two-day event lasting from September 30th until October 1st, 2017, was sponsored by the 97.1 BULL radio station, along with the my92.9 radio broadcast station. This was the third annual Oro Valley Music Festival that drew in a crowd of over 10,000 people for both days (Burch, Karr). The first day of the festival was solely country music while the second day was predominantly modern pop music, with headline acts including Echosmith, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Leann Rimes, Gavin DeGraw, and Train (“Oro…). The Oro Valley Music Festival is open to people of all ages and beyond the territories of Southern Arizona. According to Rich Elias, the golf club’s general manager, “the range of customers that we feel like we cater to is literally 15 to 65,” adding “there’s something for everybody here,” (Burch). Overall, the Oro Valley Music Festival is tailored for the people and visitors of Tucson, Arizona, bringing in substantial revenue and positive reviews from attendees. After all, the people are the biggest contributors to the future fate of the Oro Valley Music Festival. A local resident quoted in a Tucson News Now article stated, “It’s good to have recognition for Tucson and have something to do because everyone goes to Phoenix” (Herrara).     I attended concert Welcome Christmas 2014 performed by the Vocal Essence and The Ensemble singers on Friday December 5th from 7.30 to 9: 30 pm at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Apple Valley. The concert was conducted by Phillip Brunelle, narrated by Katherrine Fennard and fiddled by Sara Pajounen. Recording devices and cameras were prohibited it could have been a nice opportunity to record and listen again. I arrived just on time and the singers all dressed in black suites for men and black dresses for women processed silently as they took their spots on the stage according to the parts they were practicing for while the audience cheered for them as they took their spots on stage. As the choristers arrived the hall the musical prelude was going on with different instruments such as the flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, horn, trumpet, fiddle, violin, viola, cello, bass and percussion but the musicians stopped playing and cheered them as well.     August 27, 2012, you and your friends pile into the care and you drive until you finally reach nowhere, also known as Black Rock Desert. Burning Man, a week long experience of art, exploration, freedom, and expression. When attending Burning Man there are not many rules, only a select few that are enforced. One of the enforced rules of Burning Man is that you leave the land the way you found it. If you bring it you take it. Volunteers stay weeks after Burning Man to make sure the desert is clean. Burning Man has a permit that allows up to 50,000 people to attend and this year, for the second in a row, they have sold out again. One thing that they mention to you when you get your ticket is that if they feel you can’t meet your basic needs (food, water, shelter…etc.) then they will not let you in and will ask you to turn around. People see this event as their ticket to express themselves completely with no fear of judgement. You may be thinking that people who deal with the crazy heat and harsh conditions are out of their minds but it is all part of the experience of survival and promoting being respectful of the land.     Woodstock was a three-day outdoor festival of peace, love, and music in the summer of 1969 in Bethel, New York. But it was more than just a rock music festival; it symbolized the developing counterculture of the 1960s. Over the course of the weekend, thirty-two bands performed in front of an enormous group of youthful people. There were about 500,000 people that attended Woodstock through the rainstorms and mud puddles. It was the first concert to have that kind of crowd. It is recalled as having one of the most talented lineups in the history of music for its variety of artists and styles. The amazing thing about this concert was no one expected it to be as famous as it was nor have such a massive attendance of people without violence breaking out. It’s a scary thought to think that such a profound cultural influence almost didn’t happen. There were many problems involved in planning Woodstock such as location, obtaining permits, shortage of time and resources. There were major shortages of food, water, and sanitation facilities that were stifled by kind people sharing and giving things for free to their peers. To many people’s amazement, it all came together to create a once in a lifetime event that 500,000 people have the privilege of remembering. Many artists such as Carlos Santana and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young had their debut playing at Woodstock and continued on to have very successful careers.
