Organizing Function of Management
Managing a company is a difficult task which requires knowledge of the market, financial intelligence, and knowledge of dealing and caring for the employees, to name a few. However, even if a company has this knowledge it is not enough if the company does not know how to organize everything into a cohesive plan. “Organizing is the function of management which follows planning. It is a function in which the synchronization and combination of human, physical and financial resources takes place”. (Bateman and Snell (2009) Organizing a company is difficult work, but necessary for a successful company. ARISE Family Services is a nonprofit organization that assists people with different abilities. Their mission statement says “to work with people of all abilities to create a fair and just community in which everyone can fully participate.” ("Arise", 2006-2012) ARISE works with many agencies in the community, state legislators, and hospitals, just to name a few. Collaborating with so many agencies, a high staff number, and even higher number of individuals with special needs makes a need for good managerial organization.
Human Resources
“A company is its people. They form the culture, produce the product, and deliver it. The human resources function must seek, attract, and keep individual having the skills, human qualities, and experience required by the operations management system”. (Bateman and Snell (2009)) According to Tom Mckeown of Arise a “team of more than 500 staff members who engage in advocacy and provide services in Onondaga, Oswego, and Madison counties through 50 programs” ("Arise", 2006-2012) are employed in this New York State based agency. This does not include the volunteers of the agency. Keeping every employee in a three county area with 50 programs can be very challenging. The management team has a person

    The owner, operators also known as shareholders founded the organization for a specific purpose to meet the needs and problems of a targeted population (Yuen/Terao, 2003) Therefore, the human service organization’s purpose, mission, and goals have a direct effect on the program plan (Yuen/Terao, 2003). Funding institutions have a serious effect on the success of a human service program (Yuen/Terao, 2003).     Human service organizations are unique organizations they are different than any other in the general business world. According to Lewis and Packard (2012), human service organizations work together towards a common goal. Human service professionals work in different settings and in various ways to assist clients and improve their way of life. This shared vision brings other challenges that need to be addressed in partnership with other professionals. There are common denominators between agencies that are essential in the delivery of services. Common denominators stand out when human service organizations are observed.
