Obstacles That Made Me When I Am I
I am a very optimistic and determined person. We’ve all heard about the girl raped, abused, or even in foster care right? Luckily, I was neither of the those. Although just because I have never been that girl doesn’t mean I haven’t had my own struggles and obstacles I have had to overcome. Obstacles that made me who I am. The ones that gave me my identity.

My obstacles started as a baby. I was conceived when my mother was only thirteen years old. She lost custody of me and my older three siblings because she was still young and naive. My grandmother who had raised kids since she was the same age had to pick up the slack and gain custody of us. Since my grandmother never had the chance to finish high school nor go to college because she was

One obstacle that I have overcome is that of having lived in so many places throughout my childhood. Throughout my young life, I have had to move upwards of five times. This has caused me to have a few friends from my young life that I am still in touch with. Although this has been hard, I have been able to overcome it, and each move has made me more resilient, and made me appreciate my recent life which has had less obstacles that I can't control. Furthermore, I have also had to overcome the roadblock that was having to live through the pandemic.…

I could not begin to describe the odd characteristics I possess, but when asking my peers they told me that I was somehow strangely unique. I was never that girl who stood in with the “in” crowd nor did I ever seem like the type that stood by myself, I was in any case just me. Growing up I never really ever fashioned myself as being in any group but I could talk to almost anybody. Kids back then did not see in color. I am an African American student, according to everyone else I “marched to the beat of my own drum” but again to me I was just Jasmine. I came from an abusive home, I never really had much clothes but I did what I could to make it work, and I loved sports, it’s how I expressed myself and released frustration. As my generation grew older I noticed people I once could talk to didn’t. They began to look at me different and strange, it took me some time to realize what they were doing was natural to them because the human mind tends to gravitate to things it is use to; instead of thinking in black and white they finally saw color, as I was forced to come to the realization of when I was young. I still trudged on, known as an outcast but still one that kids looked up to. I believed in myself my rights and my dreams and I am determined to make them come true. By the grace of God, he has now moved obstacle’s and people out of my way to let me succeed in life. Not letting anyone tell me otherwise I stood up for myself, and I would never take no for an answer. As stubborn as I am, I am a true friend, a lover of all things, and a genuinely caring person. I’m the girl you would never guess enjoys country music and wearing her boots on a Friday night, the girl that could make just about anyone laugh, the girl who is wildly passionate on any given subject, the girl that goes to sleep at 3o clock in the morning finishing homework after getting…

Obstacles and hardships are what shape a person. One of my many obstacles I had to face was getting use to my freshman year in high school. Due to me going to an Early college my freshman experience may have been a little different. Transitioning was one of the most difficult parts of the whole experience due to me not being able to really grasp what I had gotten myself into. My teachers were very firm in conducting their teaching strategies. I can recall a moment in time where I had turned in one of my first papers for my English class I was so excited for her to read it because I had worked all night on it trying to perfect it. A couple days passed and I got the paper back it was so many read marks on it if I didn't know any better I would…

According to Michelle Akers, “I think the challenge is, to take difficult and painful times and turn them into something beneficial, something that makes you grow.” Just like every human being, I have had my fair share of challenges to face. My parents were born and raised in Mexico. Being from the type of family both my parents had, education was not an option and no importance was taken toward it. They both dropped out of high school and began to work in factories to help their families with financial problems. They realized how hard it was to earn a living and to maintain a family without a proper education. When I was four years old and my sister was nine, my parents made the decision to send us to Brownsville, TX for a proper American education.…

Everyone in life will have their own personal obstacles they will have to face in life. Some people will mentally shut down and give up when faced with a challenge. Others will take their challenges and use them to better themselves. The obstacles that I have faced in my life have never hit me harder than they have these past few months. This being my senior year, I always expected it to be the most laid back and relaxing year of my high school career. When in fact I set myself up for one of the biggest challenges of my life so far, by signing up for multiple online college classes, helping out with activities all over the school, and playing football for the first time since freshman year. Although, under all this immense pressure, this is where my true colors came out. I didn’t stop working to my full potential,…

The biggest obstacle I have overcame in my life was attending college at a four-year school. While my family had a decent income, some spending decisions and my parent’s desire for me to “make it on my own” meant I had to pay for whatever education I acquired on my own. This was made more difficult because their income disqualified me from multiple scholarships. Another problem was that the quality of education offered by my local schools was not very high. We weren’t offered AP classes and had to take almost identical classes since the school just couldn’t afford to offer much else. These classes often lagged far behind most standards anyway because many students in the class had no interest in learning or their quality of education up…

I face many barriers one barrier that I face is letting my family make decisions for me. I let my family influence my thinking. Sometimes, I ask for their opinions about things and I let them tell me what they think I need to do about it and I do what they say instead of doing what I want to do. I just do not want to let my family down, but I know that I need to overcome this. Sometimes family needs to be involved in decision making, but now that I have my own family I need to stop asking for what I think they would want and I need to make my own choices.…

There are many obstacles in life that could get in the way of accomplishing my goals but I will just share three of the obstacles with you. The first and most important I think would have to be the lack of support. Even though I have moved back in with my parents while I am in school, I get no positive support from them. I really surprised them at graduation back in October for my diploma program when I was announced as the Distinguished Graduate. I am taking this no support from family as positive motivation to prove them all wrong when I obtain my educational goal which is finishing my Associate’s Degree.…
