Fitting in as a child was difficult; moreover, stereotypes overwhelmed me and I lost my identity. Living in the two countries made me realize that no matter where I go, I will always be different. Rather than being negative of this situation, I started to accept it, ultimately boosting my self-confidence further. A couple years after moving to America, I learned the meaning of courage. American society heavily emphasizes people to voice their opinion, where as Japanese society is the opposite. Growing up in the states, I learned to stand up for what I believe in. In middle school, I gave a talk about obesity and ways to avoid or fix the problem in a speech competition. With the determination that I had, I was able to become second in state. I transitioned from the quiet girl I once was, to a woman who lets her voice be heard. One life-changing experience shaped me into a woman who I am today: persevering, courageous, and confident. Incidentally, the momentous change provided me with obstacles, teaching me substantial lessons that I value today. From putting in time and effort for success, to embracing who I am. These lessons will guide me to become a better being as well as influence others along the
