Observation In Middle School
Observational Reflection #3
Today during my observation I became against “hand raising”. I know that there were classes for me in middle school where students would just shout out an answer while others had their hand raised, thus defeating the purpose of hand raising. As a teacher I want my students to feel comfortable answering questions without necessarily raising their hands because of an incident I observed today. The student today during my observation that raised her hand to answer a question became irritated when she did not get the chance to answer it because another student blurted it out. So I will not make my students raise their hands to answer questions. I will explain this to my students because it may seem awkward for the students to stop raising their hand when I ask questions because they have done it for so long.
Having a determined set of rules or guidelines for my class will create a classroom atmosphere where students feel comfortable. At the middle school

I must admit that in the past I did participate in some teasing of other students and complaining about a few teachers that I have had. I have come to realize that it is not appropriate. As a future educator I believe there is a line that students should not cross when it comes to making fun of others or complaining about teachers. A student should never talk about other teachers in the building, especially in front of another educator. Respect is one thing I highly value and when someone does not show me respect I get upset. In the same regard, I try to show others the respect I want to receive. So with that being said I have started to work on a few repercussions for inappropriate behaviors in my class room that will hopefully prevent the students from acting out

The purpose of this experience was to observe a middle school. The purpose of the assignment was to determine the ways in which the middle school worked to meet the needs of the unique middle school learners. The middle school I visited was very effective in meeting the needs of middle schoolers. The school has interdisplinary teams who worked together to create instruction and help to offer the best learning opportunities for their students. The teachers gave excellent and effective lessons that motivated students. The classrooms were also student centered and accounted for different learning styles in the classroom.…

While I was observing Ms. Carrilo’s Pre-K classroom and interacting with the students, I saw that all three types of play— guided, spontaneous, and teacher directed play—was being used. After we all went inside of the classroom and settled down from being outside, half of the students went with the teacher assistant to the work area and half of the students stayed with the mentor teacher, Ms. Carrilo, at the carpet/block area. Ms. Carrilo said that she wanted one of the UTSA students to stay with her and the other UTSA student to go with the teacher assistant. I went with the teacher assistant to the work area and my UTSA partner, Alexis, stayed with Ms. Carrilo in the carpet/block area.…

Middle grade students are wonderful, and are often misjudged. This semester, in U-Teach 1202, I was placed in Dr. Won 7th grade Life Science class at Blackmon Road Middle School. Middle school is significantly different from high school; the middle school I went to is small compared to Ridgeview which has far more opportunities. Ridgeview has presented itself to be stronger, more demanding, and far more open. A few things that have been demonstrated to be far more taxing are band, different classes, and the method of accomplishment.…

My philosophy within the classroom and the theories that support my philosophy, will allow students to manage their own behavior and trust me and themselves with the route we take to manage their behavior. On the first day of school, the students and I will go over all the rules that are set by the school system. I will also cover the rules that I will set forth within the classroom environment. These rules/guidelines will consist of: treat others, the way you would want to be treated, be confident in your answer, do not stress, always choose kindness, and never be afraid to be you. Then, we as a class will determine a set of guidelines for myself and the students to follow to ensure that we all are positively managing our behavior. The setting of guidelines will take place during a classroom meeting, which I plan…

This year I’ll be working in a middle school teaching sixth grade. I believe it is very important to set a great foundation for sixth graders. At this level of learning I believe they have to learn discipline. Its important for students at this level to learn discipline to help them grow and mature as students. What better way to help them achieve this through setting in place rules and procedures for the classroom. Starting the year off setting rules will set the students in my classroom up for great success, if the they come in understanding what’s expected of them. Van Brummel suggests, “To create an optimal learning situation, indicate your expectations clearly.” One of these supports will be classroom rules. These rules will be for the entire classroom, which will be set at the beginning of the school year. The rules will be simple and easy to understand for young students. The rules as follows:…

If we would just simply sit there and kept our mouths quiet, everything would be fine. I don't think any arguments would happen. But, best of all, my classmates and I could get our education. I don't believe a classroom should be completely silent all of the time and no one says anything. But, a few jokes here and there are completely fine. But a student has to think when it’s the right time to make a little joke but then get back to work.…

My school has in place many rules which govern a student’s general behavior, dress and conduct; this is common in all schools. My classroom which is a part of the school as a whole has its own guidelines, rules and regulations, in addition to the governing rules of the school. My guidelines as I prefer to them, are to ensure that my lesson is taught with minimal disruption in the time frame allocated. My main ideology is teaching students to effectively manage their own time.…
