Mr. Joshua Hoppe’s perspective is very interesting and useful. I can certainly appreciate his expertise working in a multiracial school. One very important point that he makes is similar to Miss Washington which is communication and team work. Mrs. Joshua explains very well the value in communicating and working as a team with the pupil’s family. The most important message is to build rapport and embrace my student’s cultures. I will use my ear to listen to my students needs and use my eyes to appreciate difference.

3. Why is it important to understand the families of children with disabilities?
Family is important. Understanding the family’s values and culture deepens the teacher’s relationship with student. To build a road of communication positively reflects on the student’s accomplishments. To be effective professionals, we must understand the value of family- professional partnership. To build this relationship there must be communication, trust and respect, and skills.
4. How do we understand and respect cultural difference in parents of our students?
It is important that teachers can appreciate cultural difference. Not only will it help us improve as teachers but it will help our students accomplish their goals.
One way to understand and respect other cultures is to simply not to assume. We must reframe from making assumptions.
