Cultural Competence In Education
Cultural competence is the key to thriving in culturally diverse classrooms and schools. It can also be learned, practiced and institutionalized to better serve diverse students, their families and their communities. Cultural competence doesn’t occur as a result of a single day of training, reading a book or taking a course. I believe as educators we become culturally competent over time. I plan to understand and communicate by being knowledgeable of the cultural backgrounds of my students. I will create an open atmosphere where they will be able to educate other students on their experiences and culture. I will value the diversity that is set forth in my classroom.
