Good evening everyone, I hope everyone is enjoying their night. My name is Keyona and I was the one of the 4 captains chosen for the 2011 Montclair High School Cheerleading Squad. During my 3 years on the squad, I’ve had so many memories, good and bad, that helped me grow as a person. Cheerleading throughout my high school career took part in shaping me as the person I am today. I’d like to congratulate this year’s squad for making it through the season successfully as a new team. There were a lot of ups and downs, but I think we handled each situation well. As the season progressed, I’ve formed bonds with many of the girls on the team that will last me way beyond my high school experience. Some of the girls I think more of sisters than team mates. You guys made my experience more than enjoyable by joking, laughing, and having fun every time I stepped through gym doors. Even if my day was horrible, SOMEONE made me laugh or smile and my frown was quickly turned upside down. I’d like to thank Ms. Rob and Ms. HB for giving me the opportunity to be captain this year. They taught me to have a tough skin and to keep my head up in any situation I face in life. If I had the choice to pick different coaches for the squad, I wouldn’t because nobody could take their place in my eyes. Most importantly, I’d like to thank my mother Lisa White for motivating me and being there whenever I needed her. Even though she punished me every Saturday after each home game with washing loads of dishes from when she made cookies the night before, it was worth it. Overall, the season was unforgettable and I wouldn’t give my spot up as captain for the world. Thank you guys and enjoy the rest of your time here at the…

They’ve always been there. They will stand by your side and never give up on you. Even on your worst days, they’ll stick with you because they believe in you. I love being a Lady Knight because of how close we all are. When we step out onto the court, we’re different than other teams. We’re one big efficient TEAM. We are fallible, but knowing each other’s strengths and weaknesses has enabled us to play according to one another, and succeed. We’ve put aside the small differences we may have and gained each other’s trust and respect. We spend day in and day out together, in school and out, and this, I really believe, is what makes us a whole. I don’t know what I’d do without you guys… Finally, being a Lady Knight has helped me, I believe, become a better individual myself. It has shaped me, molded me, and changed me for the definite better. I hold more confidence in myself and my abilities as a volleyball player in the two years that I have played for the Lady Knights than I probably would have gained over a lifetime. I am truly honored to have played with such a remarkable group of girls, and have a coach that is the absolute best anyone could ask…

This is not only because my team made it to the championship, but also because I got to play with my sister. At first, I was not thrilled with the idea of my thirteen year old sister playing with me, however, after the first game I realized that it was an asset to have her as a teammate. We were both quick, nimble and in sync. For once, my sister was actually listening to my advice, on and off the court. I have CBAA to thank for the irreplaceable bond that I got to make with my sister, because this year I was not only her teammate, but her mentor, role model, and best…

For my 20 time project I learned how to manage a hockey team with the Columbus Blue Jackets, So basically like rooms in the arena, jobs with the team and I learned that there were two different entities associated with a team, one is the actual team and the staff. And the other is arena management, they are the people were maintain the facility, security, and much more. In class I researched the staff and researched other rooms that I couldn't see on the tour. And outside of class I took a tour of nationwide arena and got a better look of the arena management side of the team, and also I made my final product on publisher and printed it out in color. I took Columbus Blue Jacket backgrounds and put them in the my final product and used them…

The most memorable thing that happened to me was when I first discovered what I’m really good at. I came across inspiring Youtube videos of old classic Roller Derby and recent ones that were published only a year ago, I knew from the moment I laid eyes on those quads that I had to try it. In less than two weeks I was a complete natural at skating, I was all about skates. I practiced all the derby stances, exercises, techniques you name it I am absolutely in love with this sport. but as much as I fantasized about doing it I never thought that I’d actually get the chance to be part of their world and have training by the Derby Dames Juniors Freshmeat Association crew, which are ranked the top thirty-one in the united states!…

I was devastated. My entire offseason of hard work would be put to waste. I realized that unless I wanted my season to be ruined I had to find another way to help my team out. One way I helped my team was by learning how to keep score of baseball games so that one of my coaches didn’t have to do it during the game. I also made it to almost every game during that season so I could cheer my team on. At the end of the season, my coach came up to me and told me how much he appreciated how I made an effort to support our team even though I couldn’t participate. This made me realize how much of an impact I had made even though I hadn’t played.…

Never would I have expected one of my first experiences in class at Miami Dade College to have excited me as much as this class has so far. One of the reasons I feel so ecstatic to begin this class is the loving vibe that the class throws off. This class isn’t just a class you go to, do your work, and go about your day outside of the class walls, it is a class that is intentional. You cannot leave this class without it impacting your life in some beautiful way. This class excites me because we will be participating in the WOW Center. Contrary to usual class regimen, I will be teaching others, while teaching myself. This class is here to expand our minds, and not just to assign busy work. Through serving at the WOW Center, we will be learning…

On the other hand, my sports life has become unforgettable during this year. I went through injuries, successes, and unbelievable qualifications that have helped me to believe in myself and the true heart I have when giving it my all. During my swimming season, things were going along smooth, but unfortunately, I had injured my back during a practice. Now the first thought that hit me was “it’s over now, I’m done.” Oddly enough, although this happened, I got out of the water and had an instinct telling me I should keep going with the injury and I definitely did so. The swimming season continued and sectionals started and I knew this…

On August 10, 2000 I stepped on to the tennis court for my first tennis lessons. I had previously tried to play the sport but this day I was determined to start a journey in which I could master it. After my first real tennis year, I improved at an incredible pace, and went a summer to the world-renowned Nick Bolletierri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida. At merely 11 years old, I found myself without my family and in an unknown place, but that didn't stop me from doing what I most loved, playing tennis. After that summer I fell in love with that sport and went the next two summers to Saddlebrook Tennis Academy in Tampa Bay Florida, where I polished my skills and started to play a few serious tournaments. The first tournaments that I played made me realize that no matter how much I had practiced in the tennis court, this was not practice, and at the beginning, my lack of tournament experience, hindered my ability to perform at my utmost level. In the few tournaments that I played in Florida…

The history of tennis is said to date back several of thousands of years. The game was created by European monks. It began as a game for “entertainment purposes during religious ceremonies. To begin the game of tennis one was too hit the ball with their hand, soon the leather glove came into existence. This now replaced ones hand with a more effective way to hit and serve the ball, and so the first “racquet” was created. With a new way to hit the tennis balls, then the ball went under reconstruction and redesign seeing as the first tennis ball was wooden. Soon the new ball was bouncier, it was made of leather filled with cellulose material. The game of tennis soon became very popular in Europe, then in france as it was adopted by the royal family. But in the beginning tennis was called “Jeu de paumme” – the game of the palm, and it was played by kings and noblemen. The French players began the game by yelling the word “tenez!” which meant “Play!” The name was then changed to royal or “real tennis.” In 1874 the first tennis courts came to be in the United States and Major Walter Wingfield had requested the patent rights for the equipment and rules of the game. The game spread like wild fire to different parts of the world like, Russia, Canada, India and China. Although Wingfield’s version of the tennis courts and rules of the game underwent a many changes until it gave way to the modern version of tennis we play today.…

My hard work and love for this game got me on the very first women’s soccer team in Brooklyn College 2 years ago and that's where the most amazing journey of my life began. Even though we trained hard and fought even harder in each and every single game, we didn't get too far in the championship What we gained was an amazing connection we all shared from the very first practice and determination to come back stronger next year and surprise everyone, to beat every team that defeated us. As soon as season ended, me and my teammates all started working on things we needed to improve. Gym and soccer became our second home. And before we knew it, it was August…
