Narrative Experience November 12, 2012 was the start of our on-the-job training together with my fiend Angel Arellano at Iloilo City Development Bank. My first day wasn’t that good for me it’s because I was so shy as we enter the door of the bank. I and Angel are so nervous because at first we are not familiar with the employee and in the kind of work they may given to us. Working-out on adjusting with the changing working environment was also a good point of improvement for us. Basics in filling of important files and filling of daily reports were also learned early that week. But during my first day in the office it’s been very hard for me to file those documents, maybe because I am confused of what I am doing. In the first day, we were introduced by the manager Sir Bong, who interviewed and accepted our applications in the previous week. Everyone in the office was very welcoming and wears gestures that guaranteed joyful working vicinity with us. Some costumer-oriented skills were also taught in assisting walk in clients. I was train at Iloilo city Development Bank for almost four (4) months and observed the daily activities and practices of the employees inside the office, as well as the rules and regulations that all staffs and officers must fulfill with. And of course as trainees, we must wear our corporate attire or OJT uniform from Monday to Friday except for Saturday which serves as our washday in the office. I have to be at the bank at 9:00 am after my class in tax.400. Absences are recorded at our DTR and we have to ask permission to the manager or other personnel to give respect before we leave the bank premises. We have to give valuable reasons for leaving when buying some snacks outsides. I participated in the normal operation of the office by doing the tasks that assigned to me. The second week was merely the implementations of everything that have learned in the first week, plus the additional continuous feeding-in knowledge and experiences.

Our university must have good coordination for some companies that accept On-The-Job Training inside their company. The university should provide more budgets and time given to the OJT coordinator and should assign not only one OJT coordinator to have the best monitoring of the training of the students are taking especially to those students who chose to do their training in far places like Baguio City, Manila and others. For me, the company is a good training ground. Because this government company created a good service to their clients and gave training for the students like me. They treated me as their fellow worker. But unfortunately it is far from our university. For the company, they must have an IT Department or computer technicians to assist them about their problems regarding their computers. For the future OJT trainees, they must have a good company that would give them a good training ground and would enhance their knowledge and capabilities. They must look for a company or institution where they can apply their learned knowledge from the university and they must know the background and the functions of the company that they are going to. They must know their nature of job so that they will have an idea on what they are going to do when they will be starting their training. When they are in training, they must focus and concentrate in their assigned task. They must follow the rules and regulations of the company. Just always be on time. And in case of problems, be calm and do not panic. Listen to your supervisor and know your responsibilities. Don’t be shy to ask your supervisor or your superiors if there are something that you don’t understand. It is better to ask them than having any mistakes while doing your assigned task. Learn to accept the fact that you also commit mistakes. Learn to get along with your co-workers and to your superiors. Always remember your reason why you are in that company, to…
