Narrative Essay About Moving Over Again
I used to be popular.

I used to make friends as naturally as breathing.

I used to be so sociable that adults would tire of hearing me speak.

I used to find myself standing before the teacher’s desk, receiving some minor punishment for socializing too often.

Then my family moved, and I lost all the relationships I had built up.

I used to start all over again with the same level of enthusiasm as initially.

And again.

And again.

Every time my family moved, I started to see less and less of the importance of friends. What was the point, when you move again in three or four years and have to start all over. Thus, I turned to things I knew were constant; Books, Drawing, Video Games. I am glad this is the case, as artistic pursuits comprise

Who could've thought moving states could cause such a change? I never knew it could… this much. As the for sale was ripped out of my yard, we returned back into my previous house. This was the day we moved to hot and big Texas. We hauled all our boxes, big and small, short and tall, into the moving truck. “Let's go,” my mom yelled. We started our journey to Texas, and I could already feel sorrow in my heart.…

Growing up, I was always viewed as a person that didn’t like any type of socialization. I was portrayed as a quiet, nerdy, reserved individual that had very limited conversations with those around me. Unfortunately, the people that said this about me were wrong. In reality, if I were to describe myself to someone that doesn’t know me, I would tell them that I’m a very outgoing, laid back, intelligent, trustworthy, responsible, friendly, funny, outspoken, and social individual.…

The person I once knew, Tammy, had gone missing until she found herself. The transition to a puny town from an immense city completely changed who I was. Let’s start from the beginning.…

I didn't grow up in the most conventional household. My parents both worked and we consistently had babysitters and nannies taking care of us most of my childhood. My mom was the “breadwinner” she had always made significantly more than my dad and there was really no reason for my dad to work in the first place, he really just did it because he loved it. As my 4 brothers and I got older it got progressively harder on my parents being away from home so much. When a job opportunity with less hours and a sizable amount of money came to my mom she was quick to consider it. She eventually made her decision, consulting my dad very little, she made the decision to move across the country to a place we all had never been to.…

I know I’m moving in the right direction when I have the power to keep going even after facing challenges thrown at me from life. I always believed that for success to be tangible, I have to be resilient and optimistic. The ability to withstand stress, adapt, and overcome changes in life is what helps keep me on track and reach your goals. Of course, controlling thoughts and keeping sane through changes in life isn’t as easy as it sounds and that is what I didn’t know the moment I emigrated to America. Even though I had the mentality of never giving up, I didn’t know how difficult it is until unexpected changes beyond my control tested my resilience. The difficulty of speaking the language, dealing with the cultural differences, and most importantly,…

The feeling of emptiness and loneliness rose as I walked into my class when I was eight years old. On March 28th, 2008, my family and I moved to America from Japan. Despite having an English-speaking father, I was still unfamiliar with the language. I could not read, write, or speak fluently. At the time, I thought moving was the worst decision my parents had made. I had to learn a new language while being in the same grade as my age. I had no friends and I was lost. As I grew older, I started to appreciate this life-changing experience because it shaped a shy, hesitant girl to a strong, persevering woman.…

I was born in the city of Monterrey in Mexico. My family decided to move to the US in 2009 due to growing concerns of money and safety. Back then, Monterrey was considered one of the most dangerous places to live in Mexico, as the two main cartels were disputing over the territory. My dad had lost his job and my mom worked part time at a pharmacy. Because public school in Mexico is very poor, my mom had always had me enrolled in private schools. We were in a tight situation, we couldn’t pay for the house anymore and my dad was not having much luck in finding a new job. For this reason, my parents were practically forced to move to the US. After the long, expensive process of applying for visas and passports, we finally were able to move to the land of opportunity. We started from zero, there was absolutely no money in our pockets. I was a new student at a new school in a foreign country. I could not be more self-conscious at any other time in my life. All I could think about was how others saw me and how I fit in with…

I shoved the last of my clothing into a bag, anything I couldn’t fit into my luggage will have to be left behind. I’ve never realized how much stuff I had until I forced into a box; unfortunately, this didn’t stop from forcing as much as possible into bags, boxes, or luggage. Overall I packed almost my entire room. There’d be no room in my car for the mattress so it looks like the back seat will be my bed for the foreseeable future.…

If I could have one 'do-over' in life, my do over would be High School. It would be High School, because knowing what I know now, I would've been a lot more involved in school. I would have joined more clubs and organizations. I would have cared more about my activities. Now, applying for college and scholarships, I have nothing to show for it. I only really did one organization in high school. If I could have a do over, I would redo my high school career and hopefully have a more impressive resume. Middle school does not prepare you enough for high school. Teachers say, do work, you won’t get easy passes like you do now. It’s going to be harder. When really, we need to know more than that. We need to be told to get involved, to be diverse.…
