I Thought the World was ending.

Once you grow up you realize how insignificant a mortifying situation can make you feel. It feels almost like it’s the end of the world. On a hot summer Friday afternoon a middle school group traveled in a white passenger van down a long country road to a youth conference. I was a young girl who had no idea how the next 30 minutes would transpire into the most embarrassing time of my life.
The middle school church group was headed to a youth conference like we always did, but this trip was three hours away from home. I was your typical middle school girl having fun on the van singing, laughing, talking and making jokes. The driver of the van Sam was our adult youth pastor he was funny, loud and loves GOD. I had some close friends on the van and some that were not close.
As I sat in the third row of the van by the window I felt pain enter my stomach like I have never felt before. The urge to use the restroom and I am not talking about number one. I repeatedly asked Sam how much longer we had until the next stop at a restroom. His response was just a couple more miles. I continued to squeeze my bottom cheeks together hoping and praying my stomachache would go away. Unfortunately the pain did not subside and I did not have the power to hold it in anymore.
Then I could not believe it to my disbelief the most embarrassing thing had occurred. Silent but instant the smell filled the entire passenger van. Diarrhea filled my favorite purple pants. I was so mortified when the poop starting dripping down my leg and almost reached my shoes. Then out of nowhere a gas station appeared. I guess my prayer was answer, but unfortunately it was a little too late. Once we pulled into the gas station parking lot everyone exited the van but I stayed in my seat and did not move. I motion my sister over to me and whispered; “Can you please grab me something to cover my

First my youth group and I got in the old, worn down, party van that would take us to the time of our life. I felt the comforting air conditioner on my face. I heard the rusted engine growl to a start. I smelled the saltiness of the chip bags opening, and the fruitiness of gum being chomped. That’s when I finally knew that our journey had begun. We…

I was sat squished in the back of one of the minivans with Sam, our treats and various forms of entertainment for the long ride sat between us. The drive was long and boring. We slept, played every car ride game possible and watched movies. The 806.2 miles seemed to take everlasting. We stopped for two nights at a hotel and took a day to go to an amusement park. My love for amusement parks was stronger than my urge to return home and after spending the day on roller coaster rides and eating cotton candy, I decided for a brief moment that maybe this trip wouldn't be so bad after…

I was scared. My sister and I got ready, but we were not happy. We knew we had to go to school, and mom would not let us stay home. We walked to the bus stop right across the street from our house. A few minutes later, a big yellow bus pulled up right next to us. We looked at each other and my sister said, “Here we go.”…

Just like any other trip, my sister and I were singing along to the songs on the radio to make the time pass by quicker. About half way to our destination the “low fuel” button lit up on the dashboard, we didn’t really pay attention to it, as we were having a great time laughing and singing. About fifteen miles later we looked at the dashboard and saw that the fuel level had fallen at the red line, and that’s when all the singing and laughing stopped. We realized that we needed to take the next exit to fill up. Unfortunately, there was no exit in sight, not for another twenty miles. We drove slower to get better gas mileage so that we make it to the next gas station. This twenty-mile drive seemed to be endless as we panicked and prayed to be able to reach the next exit with the gas we had left. As we finally turned into the gas station property, the car stopped. A few guys that were there helped us push the car to the pump. We finally filled up and were able to continue our drive.…

Pulling up on this old beat down gas station. We all knew it was old when the sign was hanging loosely and swinging with the wind. My dad needed to put gas but I could see he was very skeptical. I rolled my window down getting closer to the gas pump, when I smell the most unpleasant scent I have ever smelt. I told my dad we would have to pay for the gas on the inside because the machine was so old that dirt and spider webs built up in the card machine reader.…

    I Wouldn't Change A Thing

Of course I parked in a handicapped spot; of course there is no sign, except the little painting on the ground that looks as if it has been here since Vietnam; and, of course I have to use the bathroom again, I am thirty-six weeks pregnant after all. This day has started off to be a great one. Don’t get me wrong, being pregnant is a beautiful experience. I love feeling the baby kick and somersault around inside my belly, feeling the little bounces of his hiccups, and hearing his little heartbeat. It is just amazing. The thought of knowing that I made him and he will soon be my little miracle warms my heart. I want to welcome my little boy into the world, sooner rather than later, and am anxiously awaiting my due date. I thought about leaving the car in the handicapped spot and proceeding to check in for my appointment at my second home, the doctor’s office. But, with my luck, I would probably get a ticket in the short amount of time it would take to me to check in. Plus, let’s face it; I am way too big to actually want to walk all the way back out here on this cold day in December to move my car. I debated with myself for a brief moment while standing outside, but eventually proceeded to walk back to the car and swing open the door to the driver’s side of my little, silver Toyota Camry. The door was opened with such force and aggravation that I almost ripped it off. I start to climb into the driver’s seat when the most distressing thing happened. I peed my pants! It took me about ten seconds to realize that this didn't actually feel like urine and it didn't smell like it either. I am almost certain my water just broke. After I move the car, since I still don't want a ticket, I waddle my way into the doctor’s office at a rapid pace. I don’t remember the last time I was able to move this fast. I made a brilliant entrance and yelled out “My water just broke.” That is when it hit…

A gentleman motioned to us that he had finished and was going to leave. Dan got the pump number and went into the store to pay for the gas. As the car pulled away I began to pull Dan's car up to the pump when all of a sudden, this van come screeching around from the opposite direction, trying to get to the pump before me. I stepped on it and the driver of the van slammed on his brakes. I continued until I was just inches from his bumper. I made sure I was close enough for the hose to reach.…

We had to fill up the tank for the first time. Never in my life have I argued with my best friend about the stupidest thing. Who, is going to pay for the first gas fill-up? After about 10 minutes of arguing we finally decided to flip a coin to see who would pay. Turns out there are some rules about coin flipping that I didn’t know about. We just had a mutual agreement to alternate who pays for gas. That was only the first major delay in our trip.…

It was in December of 1996, and was a cold, dreary winter day. I was in my eighth month of pregnancy and I was crabby about having to lug around extra weight that was in my belly. I awoke early that morning and decided to run some errands. I drove a Jeep Wrangler at that time, a red one with a white hard top that consistently bounced around the road with every bump and crack that you hit. I can still feel the bitter draft that seeped through the cracks as I drove. It was a stick shift, which many of my friends did not know how to operate. Reluctantly, I hopped my pregnant body up into it barely being able to move my limbs from being bundled up in my poufy parka. My friend decided to join me that day to keep me company.…

I rushed upstairs to get dressed. I didn’t want to miss the bus! I grabbed my school bag and ran to the bus stop. I found it strange that I was the only one waiting for the bus. 10 minutes later and there was still no bus in sight. Well, no time to waste, I had to get to school. I started running as fast as I could. I looked behind me and saw that a dog started chasing me. I don’t need this now, and ran very fast. The dog grabbed my uniform, I looked down and saw I had put on the wrong shoes and was wearing my brothers’ uniform. Oh! How could this day get any worse?!…
