Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Essay
The purpose of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality inventory is to make the theory of psychological types described by C. G. Jung understandable and useful in people's lives. I took the Paragon Learning Style Inventory test of fifty-two questions, two choices for each question. After adding up my score, with the directions given, I was scored a code of “ESFJ”. This code means extrovert, sensate, feeler, and perceiver. My ESFJ code means many descriptions that describe my personality, fifteen to be exact. The codes that are given can be one of the 16 different personality types of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator instrument. My descriptions that were given are:
• Loyal
• Appreciative
• Actively Sociable
• Warm
• Harmonizer
• Caring

I feel that I am warmhearted, conscientious, and cooperative. Want harmony in my environment; work with determination to establish it. I like to work with others to complete tasks accurately and on time. I feel that I am loyal, follow through even in small matters. Notice what others need in their day-by-day lives and I try to provide it. I do like to feel appreciated for who I am and for what I contribute. I would say my orderly and concrete descriptions can be my downfalls as well as qualities, among others not listed. It is easy for me to want things the way I want them to be done. I am set in my ways about some things and I need to be more open to others opinions. I do love that I am loyal, caring, and practical. I am not a big dreamer, which that is OK with me! I find practical ways of doing things are much easier for me. I love that this test shows that I am caring. I sometimes care too much, when I shouldn’t. I am very loyal and will stick through the good, bad, and ugly. I am strong and will cooperate with anyone who will let me. I am going to be an elementary teacher in the future; I feel that my qualities are going to help me succeed in my soon to be new career working with

In his Huffington Post article, “Goodbye to MBTI, The Fad That Won’t Die,” author Adam Grant discusses his personal experience with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, in addition to providing information about its perception by members of the scientific community. Grant notes the popularity of the psychological assessment, mentioning that millions of people take it every year, and that the MBTI is becoming an increasingly widespread method through which companies learn more about their employees. He gives a fairly accurate description of the test and its uses, initially providing just a simple list of the four personality categories, but later giving more information about how each trait pair is defined.…

The historical backdrop of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) began with Carl Jung, the organiser of analytical psychology. Jung believed that individuals are either stimulated by the outer world (Extraversion) or their own inner world (Introversion). In the same way Jung observed individuals took in data (Perceiving) or organise data and frame a conclusion (Judging). Additionally Jung noted that individuals mostly demonstrate a dominant part. In this way, in 1921, Jung distributed Psychological Types in which he displayed the thought of Jungian models (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Manual, 2012). Isabel Myers-Briggs developed the MBTI in the 1920s based on Jung’s theoretical constructs with an additional two dimensions of styles of living, consisting of a fourth scale that measures perceiving and judging (Myers, McCaully, Quenck, & Hammer, 2003; Mullins, 2005; Schreuder & Coetzee, 2011). The outcome of additional dimensions of styles to Jung’s theory results in the MBTI being designed to measure 16 personality types: ISTJ (introversion, sensing, thinking, judging), ISFJ (introversion, sensing, feeling, judging), INFJ (introversion, intuition, feeling, judging), INTJ (introversion, intuition, thinking, judging), ISTP (introversion,…

The use of the Myers Briggs test really interested me in this module for the fact that I’ve had to take it before in school. It is a personality sense that is quick, small, and a pretty simple but effective way to get the basic traits of someone’s personality. When I took it I was ENFJ which means the test considers my personality and me to be Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Judging. The test has a couple of questions and only takes 10 minutes on average to take. In each letter, there are 2 options for example the 1st topic depends on if you are introverted or extraverted. An introvert tends to be quiet, shy, and not liking to be the center of attention a lot, while an extrovert tends to be the team leader, the happy go lucky friend, and enjoys their parties from time to time. Then it assess if you are intuitive or observant, if you are intuitive you are imaginative and quick at finding a solution, or you could be observant which means you down to earth and you rely on your senses. The 3rd letter assesses between a person being thinking and feeling based. A Thinking fellow would be tough and focuses on the mind while a person who the test said was more feeling would be more sensitive and follow your hearts. The final letter depends on if you are a judging or prospecting individual. A Judging personality is decisive and seeks closure while a prospective individual is good at improvising situations and they seek freedom. Based on my letters I am considered an extrovert, an imaginative person, very in tune with my emotions, and am decisive.…

that code then determines what your personality trait is. My code was ENTP, i found out that i was a visionary type. According to the results, it says: “your primary mode of living is focused externally, where you take things in primarily via your intuition. Your secondary mode is internal, where you deal with things rationally and logically.”(Myers Briggs) I am a logical person, i stay thinking about the realistic side of the problem. I agree with these results.…

What lies in the mind of others can be very unknown and possibly even too unpleasant to experience. Perhaps psychologically, the human minds are all completely different, or maybe they aren’t. According to some brilliant researchers, they believe different things about the breakdown of the personalities of humans. It all is determined on your perspective, which they’re endless “what ifs” on the subject but no complete real answer. According to Katharine Briggs and Isabel Briggs, ( Myers and Briggs) there are 16 different types of personalities.…

I must say that I do agree with the results of the test, but there are some aspects of it that I feel to be untrue. In general, I have to always stay busy and involved with various activities. I like being around people, leading, teaching and stimulating others into positive performances. I also like to act on things as opposed to just talking about it. Other people view me as having an outgoing personality. I also am able to relate to and have friends from all walks of life. On the other hand, I am one who does have to think things through, plan ahead, and am very structured (with things in order). I think that I am more a Sensing personality than a Intuitive one. I am more practical and a more hands on individual. Meaning, I often use and trust my experience before words and symbols. (Humanetrics.com, 1998-2011)…

It helps people understand their qualities as to know how to plan their lives. With the test, it is easier to categorize different characteristics or traits that people might otherwise not be aware of, which will help people learn how others could react to something in their environment.
