In life it seems that we always told to take advice from grandpa because he has lived a long time and is wise. Grandpa is the go to person for when we have a life issue. My grandfather is a very wise man. He has learned lessons from life instead of just thinking he was getting punished. He always tells us grandkids and great grandkids that everything happens for a reason; a reason to learn from. My grandfather’s name is Vernon and he is in his late 80’s. Grandpa always has a reason behind everything he does. He always helps us by talking through our problems with a logical and reasoning view. Grandpa has always helped me to look at both sides of possibilities and apply things that I already know to the situation before making a decision. Grandpa always has listened to what we have to say and he isn’t against taking advice from the younger generation. He always says that he values our input and he will store it in his knowledge bank for future reference. Grandpa is very humorous along with being logical, he always seems to be able to make light of most situations and can help us look at it from a humorous side of we end up making a bad decision. (Normally, because we didn’t go to grandpa about it before hand.) The best advice I have ever gotten from my grandfather is, when you are making a decision think about 6 months from now, or even 6 years, what is the outcome from both sides; and can you learn from your choice either way? Throughout his years grandpa has always held a positive mind frame and laced life with humor, he always asks what we learned even if we faced a consequence. I believe that my grandfather is one of the wisest men in the universe. Grandpa always learns and uses past knowledge before making a decision. Grandpa always had been there it help us with his wisdom and knowledge of life’s great lessons, he has also helped us to install some of…

“December, 1963 (Oh What a Night)” by Ricky Valley and the Four Seasons, is a song about a one night stand where the singer loses his virginity to a beautiful woman that he met in December 1963. Ricky Valley and the Four Seasons created December, 1963 in a major key, which indicates that the song is meant to be a happy, fun, and all together joyous. The Melody of the piece shows that the song remains in conjunct motion with a melodic flow that is staccato. This can be heard as the song stays relatively steady throughout, but the melody is separated by small intervals. The song is also in duple meter with the accent being heavy on the second beat, indicating syncopation. This can be heard coming from the drums in the background. Additionally,…

In the song Joe talks about how much he misses his family during the Christmas season, as he laments about missing relatives he asks, “Who's gonna make the gravy now? I bet it won't taste the same” implying that this is usually his job at Christmas and that without him there it wont taste the same, which is alluding to the fact that without him their, Christmas wont be the same. While in prison Joe has really seen the error of his ways, he knows now that without him with his family he can't see or protect his wife or children, “And you'll dance with Rita, I know you really like her, Just don't hold her too close, oh brother please don't stab me in the back". Patience is a word that I constantly hear from my mother. My mother’s days as a young child were rough and not as convenient as things are now. Back in the 1970’s, in Dominican Republic there wasn’t such things as iPad’s, iPod’s and Iphone’s. Although it wasn’t the best life, she always had patience with everything she did and it truly brought her a long way. In the book “Life Lessons”, patience is one of the topics that the author Elizabeth Kubler ‘Ross and David Kessler mentions. It discusses on how patience affects our lives and the consequences in not having patience. I myself know I don’t have all the patience in the world however, by reading this book I actually think I’m not so bad. Elizabeth mentions how one of the hardest and frustrating lessons in life is realizing that we don’t always get what we want. You may want something now but you may not get it for a while. One of my favorite lines in this chapter is “In this modern world, people are not used to living in discomfort.” I adore that line because it is absolutely true! We all expect our results quickly and were all used to having things done immediately. For instance, if were hungry there’s always food available, from microwave dinners to all night grocery stores and restaurants. I’ve learned that according to the book, we need to develop faith and believe that everything will be okay. Trying not to always be in control of the situation and just letting things happen when there supposed to happen is what we need to do. In this world patience is crucial. For example, waiting in line to purchase items, our job, cooking, and people! Increasing the input of patience in everyone will bring out a better atmosphere and create a healthier way to work things…

    Pearls of Wisdom

Pearl is described as a perfect specimen of a child: her liveliness, coordination, and ideal shape make her “worthy to have been brought forth in Eden” (59). Pearl captivates the eyes of spectators with her pale radiance, and embodies the innocence of a “peasant-baby” along with the regality of a princess. She has a tempestuous and unpredictable temper, and seems to be imbued with gloom. Even as an infant, Pearl possesses a “peculiar look...so intelligent, yet inexplicable, perverse, sometimes so malicious…that Hester could not help questioning at such moments whether Pearl was a human child” (61). Pearl acts differently than any child of her age and defies normality; at times, she appears to hover as lightly as a wisp, almost inexplicably disappearing. Her surreal aura and elvish laughter cause her to seem distant from the mortal world. Pearl’s advancement is rapid and unusual; she gains conversational skills before the other children her age. She does not fit in, however, as she is branded as an “emblem and product of sin” (62). When the other children approach her, she falls into a rage and babbles incoherent language that sounds analogous to the words of a witch. A characteristic that sets Pearl apart is her wild imagination. She saw objects like trees and weeds as members of the Puritan community, and she attacked the weeds, which she imagined were children, with ferocity. Her angry disposition and intellect far exceed her years, supporting the idea that Pearl is not an average human, or even completely human at all. When Hester is overcome with grief and cries out in anguish for her child, Pearl usually gives her a “sprite-like smile” and continues with her introverted doings. Her behavior contradicts normal reactions and is eerily detached from reality. The first thing Pearl noticed after her birth was the scarlet letter on her mother’s chest. Rather than bubbling about and enjoying her…
