The Fat Axl Research Paper
Guns n’ Roses vocalist Axl Rose has demanded Google to take down his

pictures that have been used as an internet joke.

‘The Fat Axl’ meme feature pictures of the singer who recently performed with

AC/DC alongside insulting references to his weight. The singer has made at

least 11 requests citing copyright violations on his behalf since 31st May.

Many of these photos adapt to the lyrics of the famous Guns n’ Roses tracks

and rip them off with a mocking quote on fat shaming that rhyme’s with the

lyrics including one that riffs on the song Sweet Child Of' Mine to feature the

tagline: "Sweet Pie O' Mine". Another Image changed the lines of Knocking on

heaven’s door to “knock, knock, knockin’ on Mcdonald’s door”.

“Fat pride” is described in Kathleen LeBesco’s article as larger women being comfortable with their bodies: “women who claim ‘fat pride’ and inhabit their culturally scorned bodies comfortably get little refuge from the critical, discriminatory glare of those around them” (247). Jane Bingham often displays “fat pride” in Drop Dead Diva. Ultimately, women who do not live up to society’s standards are frowned upon for being comfortable with how they look. Jane defies this by being comfortable and confident with who she is. While most of the world may say that “beauty comes in a size six” ( LeBesco 248), according to Kim…

The song “Baby It’s Cold Outside” was originally written by Frank Loesser but the version I chose was from Glee sung by Kurt and Blaine. This song represents how a holiday like Christmas is supposed to be spent with a person you love and so in the song the singer is talking to someone special and is asking them to stay for a while longer. The poetic devices they use are out there, I really can’t stay, and baby it’s cold outside. The song has a rhythm to it. The song rhymes a lot. There is a meaning to how the rhythm and rhymes are shown in the song.…

Fat, it is a word we all know very well. It is a simple word, but yet the definition is so complex. In today’s society “fat” has an extremely negative connotation. We criticize and fat shame individuals who do not fit the ideal body type. Recently in a video title, “Dear Fat People”, so-called comedian, Nicole Arbour argues that obese people should be fat shamed because they choose to be that way. Logically, if we make them feel bad about themselves, they will surely be motivated to get skinny and get fit. More than two-thirds of Americans are either obese or overweight. Does that mean that more than half the country thought “Hey, I wanna be victimized and called out on a condition I have no control over”?…

The songs begins with, “Well, I wish I had some shoes on my two bare feet / And it's gettin' kinda cold in these painted on cut-off jeans / I hate the way this bikini top chafes / Do I really have to wear it all day?” bringing to light the accepted image of country women and deeming it unfair, for gender inequality has created an expectancy that is unreasonable. Next, they address the “cat-calling” and pet names used to refer to females in country songs by singing, “Cause I got a name / And to you it ain't “pretty little thing”, “honey” or “baby.” These two lines protest the downgrading langue of popular country music and demand that females be treated as equals. They then augment these ideals in the chorus of their song and eventually reach the bridge, where they reference past country music by saying, “We used to get a little respect / Now we're lucky if we even get / To climb up in your truck, keep our mouth shut and ride along / Conway and George Strait / Never did it this way / Back in the old days / Aww y'all, we ain't a cliché / That ain't no way / To treat a lady” ("Maddie & Tae Lyrics"). With this bridge, Maddie and Tae make it apparent that women, including themselves, are not content with simply being the girl in a country song. The audaciousness of this duet is commendable, for they produced a very powerful and trendy protest song; however, the effectives is even more…

Despite undercurrents of menace, the vast majority of hit rap songs have always concerned the same topics as hit rock or pop songs: dancing, getting wasted and getting laid.” And yet, the violence described in gangsta rap was seen by law enforcement as more dangerous, more in need of policing, not entirely unlike black urban communities in the 1980s themselves. However, if you were to read the lyric sheets to the top ten rock songs vs the top ten rap songs of the 90’s, it would be very difficult to argue that the rap lyrics weren’t substantially more violent and many times, outright instigating violence. Guns and Roses Sweet Child O Mine has yet to be cited as an influence in someone’s murder or…

Rob Crosby and Stephanie Bentley us a lot of imagery throughout this song which gives readers a clear image of what the little girl is going through. In the first quatrain of this song Crosby and Bentley portray the little girl going to school and “hiding the bruises with the linen and lace of her dress.” Picturing a little girl walking to school with no one to reach out to begins to set the mood for this song. A young child who is abused can be very complicated. They don’t want anyone to know what is happening and are afraid to tell because of what may happen when they get back home. Or maybe they feel like it is their fault that they are being hit or verbally abused because they just don’t understand. The little girl in this song tries to be strong but is dying inside. Crosby and Bentley quote “she is in a world that she can’t rise above.” This is a very strong quote for this song because it explains that she can’t do anything about the abuse however she is trying to deal with the pain but it is hard being so small and powerless when no one is there to help. “Somebody cries in the moon of the night, the neighbors hear but they turn out the light.” This quote gives readers a clear explanation as well as an image of a helpless child who is basically on her own. She keeps trying to go on with her life but things get worse day by day and…
