My Script:
Genetically Modified Foods, also known as GM foods, is the process of using biotechnology techniques to create specific changes into the foods DNA, using methods of genetic engineering.

These techniques can allow our food to be modified. This then allows us to make our crops resistant to pests and disease, which benefits farmers, so they don’t have to spend excessive amounts of money on insecticides, it also enables the foods to have the capability to adapt to any environmental conditions, improve the flavour of the foods, increase the food's shelf life, making our food last longer at home and delay the food’s ripening.

An example of this is the Hawaiian Papaya plant. Since the 1940’s the Hawaiian papaya industry had been a problem of severe Papaya Ringspot Virus also known as PRSV, this type of virus deforms the fruit, and in young

This is then followed by cloning the gene, which will create several copies of the gene. The third step is the transformation stage where the scientist transfers the desired genes to the plant's own genes. At this point the scientist has created a new plant from a genetically modified plant tissue. Then the scientist must check that they have inserted the genes functions, and that the gene appears in the plants seeds correctly.

Genetically Modified Foods, sounds like it is helping the world, by increasing yields of crops, and making it possible to grow any type of crop in its unnatural environment. However there is some disadvantages, it is believed that there may be unknown health risks, it could be dangerous to some insects, as the new genes of the crops could be harmful to certain insects like butterflies, which aren’t potentially dangerous to these crops. It could also cause a threat to the environment, due to the fact that it is not a natural way to grow

    A GMO is created when DNA from one organism is combined with another organism’s DNA to make one molecule. Scientists do this by cutting and joining DNA from different sources. This forms a new set of genes. They then transfer it into the organism so it has the modified genes. Human embryos can be genetically modified in case it might have a chance of having a disease. If breast cancer is commonly found in a family the scientists can engineer the embryo so that it does not receive that trait. Trees and fruits that are genetically modified can be grown so that pesticides grow naturally in them. Sometimes scientists do not have enough of a material to use it in the lab so they use Bacterial Transformation. There are five steps of Bacterial Transformation. The first step is competency which is preparing the bacterial cells to receive DNA. This step is getting the pores to open up so they allow the genes needed to be put in. Step two is transformation in which pGLO genes (a gene from jelly fish that glows green) are inserted via the pores. Step three is growth in which the substance is just growing, eating, and reproducing. The fourth step is isolation in which you separate the newly transformed cells from the entire population of untransformed cells. Finally, step five is expression which is the phenotypic expression in which arabinose is needed to allow the gene to transcribe and make Green Fluorescent protein (GFP).
