Genetically Modified Foods, also known as GM foods, is the process of using biotechnology techniques to create specific changes into the foods DNA, using methods of genetic engineering.
These techniques can allow our food to be modified. This then allows us to make our crops resistant to pests and disease, which benefits farmers, so they don’t have to spend excessive amounts of money on insecticides, it also enables the foods to have the capability to adapt to any environmental conditions, improve the flavour of the foods, increase the food's shelf life, making our food last longer at home and delay the food’s ripening.

This is then followed by cloning the gene, which will create several copies of the gene. The third step is the transformation stage where the scientist transfers the desired genes to the plant's own genes. At this point the scientist has created a new plant from a genetically modified plant tissue. Then the scientist must check that they have inserted the genes functions, and that the gene appears in the plants seeds correctly.
Genetically Modified Foods, sounds like it is helping the world, by increasing yields of crops, and making it possible to grow any type of crop in its unnatural environment. However there is some disadvantages, it is believed that there may be unknown health risks, it could be dangerous to some insects, as the new genes of the crops could be harmful to certain insects like butterflies, which aren’t potentially dangerous to these crops. It could also cause a threat to the environment, due to the fact that it is not a natural way to grow
