My Nursing Philosophy
Philosophy of Nursing I chose nursing as my profession because I wanted to make a difference and helping those in need. I have always been interested in the health sciences field since middle school – but I truly didn’t exactly know what I wanted to do until my last semester of my undergraduate at Texas Woman’s University. I realized that I wanted to be more hands on with patients and involved in their care. In my opinion, nursing is defined as a healthcare profession that focuses on the care of individuals, their families, and communities in order to reach their optimal potential for a healthy life. The four components (Patient, Nursing, Environment, and Health) of nursing will help me to be able to develop my philosophy of nursing.
Patient
Based on the nursing models, the patient who is the primary recipient of nursing care is the central to all models (Catalano, 2012, p. 41). I think it’s the most important out of the four because nursing would not exist if it were not for the patients. Nurses are trusted with patient’s lives on a daily basis so it is important to establish a relationship and trust between the nurse and the patient. In …show more content…
Nurse’s must be committed and have a strong passion for their own work in order to administer the best care based on their abilities. Each patient should be given the best quality of care regardless of race, lifestyle, religious belief, or disability. They must also be advocates for their patients by encouraging them to be active in their own care in order to maintain life, health, and well-being. Not only do nurses must care for the patient but also provide emotional support and encouragement. No patient deserves to die alone. Understanding that each patient has different needs the nurse must assess these needs to determine what type of care is needed to improve the patient’s
