My Nursing Career Goals
My career goals would include: 1-continuing to work as an advanced practice psychiatric nurse, 2-working on obtaining a doctorate in nursing, and 3- using my education to become a nurse leader while maintaining an advanced clinical practice. Because I am already an advanced practice psychiatric nurse, obtaining a doctorate would only further my knowledge and training base and help further my career by giving me more options from which to choose in the work world. I would like to attend the DNP program at MGH IOHP because of its reputation and faculty and also for its options the program would give me to advance my career. In today’s competitive workplace, having an education that is relevant to the heavy work demands means much. Staying current with educational trends and preparing oneself for work through practice and experience is meaningful. A practice-based doctorate would give me an advantage in the workplace. I would be able to use practical knowledge in a current job market and have more than a research-based doctorate that may not be …show more content…
My hard work, determination and ability to see “outside the box” and grow from new experiences and changes would set me apart from others. I am also able to give people and new ideas chances for hope and opportunity when others might reject them. I can use those new ideas and make something meaningful out of them. I can take the positive out of people and situations that may not always be positive. I try to take negative situations and turn them around. I can give patients and individuals hope where they don’t see any and I like to give patients and people options where they may see none. Therefore, a strength I have in nursing would be the ability to give people hope and opportunities through my hard work and caring and from a positive outlook and attitude and through a good behavioral example in daily

There have been many occasions in my life that I have spent time in hospitals, nursing homes and by the side of a sick relative. When my grandfather was dying of cancer, he spent as much time as he could at home with his family by his side and when the time came, he was transferred to hospital, I was 14 at the time, still very young I knew it was not about how I was feeling, this pain was his and my grandmothers. I helped look after him for the two years he was diagnosed and it was during that time, I knew where my heart was and that was nursing. With my own experience of being in and out of hospital with two complicated pregnancies, I was in awe of the nurses and midwives who did everything they could to make me feel secure and safe, I was inspired and made an already certain career choice, even more evident.…

When I graduated my BSN program I knew that I would continue my education in a master leveled program but I was unsure where my heart would lead me. I started my nursing career in a level one trauma center ER in Spartanburg, SC. There I grew my knowledge by leaps and bounds. Due to a 64 mile distance between my home and that ER, two years later I moved from a PRN RN in a smaller ER to a FT position in Hendersonville, NC which is closer to home. In both the suburban and rural areas I noted the large disparity between primary and preventive care and the patient. Patients that walk into the ER everyday for sick visits and acute changes in chronic illnesses s are asked if they have followed up with their primary care provider. Very often…

I researched all the schools that were in my area. I wanted to make sure that I attended a school with a good reputation, a good NCLEX pass rate, and that was certified. I received all my pre-recs that I needed for the ADN program as well as all the prereqs I needed for my BSN at Lake Land College. The Lakeland College nursing program is known for being tough but very rewarding. When I attended they had a 99% pass rate on the NCLEX exam. To pass the Lakeland College nursing program you have to maintain a grade no lower than a C. The nursing program was strenuous but I never fell…
