My Leadership Strengths
The definition of a leader is a person who has a commanding influence on a group or organization. Every leader has strengths and weaknesses that define them in their leadership role. I interviewed four individuals close to me on what their thoughts were regarding my strengths and weaknesses as a leader. I interviewed my mother, coworker, a former teacher, and a good neighbor for this assignment.
When I asked about my leadership strengths, my interviewees stated that they included integrity, hardworking, a great conversationalist, diligent, pro-active on tasks, able to socialize with everyone I meet, I can assess myself well, I am always focused, cooperative, excellent at setting goals and having a get it done approach to them, has a motivational influence over a group when I am passionate for the task, and I enjoy mentoring and teaching others.

The strength qualities I listed were integrity, pro-active, setting goals, social skills, and mentoring others. My weakness qualities were self-confidence, low stress tolerance, perfectionism, thinking outside the box more, and needing to take more risks. I agree with all my leadership strengths and many of my weaknesses, these traits I recognize in myself. However, I disagree with the weakness of being socially sheltered. The person who said I am socially sheltered is exuberantly social, in person and on social media. I do not post frequently on social media as I believe in enjoying every moment rather than posting everything that I am doing. The common themes stated regarding my strengths were integrity, setting and accomplishing goals and good conversationalist. My leadership weakness common themes include being a perfectionist, over analyzation of decisions and lacking

The first strength that I have as a leader is my strong achievement drive and relentless dedication to complete each job successfully. When I am given a task or set a goal that I either need or want to accomplish I will work every possible minute to accomplish the task or meet my goal. If I reach a road block while working on a task I will search endlessly for a solution and fall back on resources if needed. One of my huge weaknesses is low self-esteem and confidence (Bethel University, 2014). Having this as a poor skill in life makes a lot of the other skills hard to conquer. I think if I had a higher confidence level then maybe I wouldn’t struggle so much with public speaking, management of people and seeking support from others. I don’t give myself enough credit and I am hard on myself. Another weakness that I struggle with is the ability to focus on one thing at a time. I have struggled with this quality as far back as I can remember. My mind is always racing and trying to complete more than more thing at a time.…

The strengths that were not revealed through any of the assessments or the 360 feedback are idealistic, seek/value harmony, open-minded, flexible, passionate, energetic spirit, and dedication. I believe this was the case because I was an intern and had no power within my agency. I also believe that I put a target on my back because apparently in some social spheres kindness is taken for weakness and I fell hard on that. My field…

Some of the characteristics I need to improve on include being overly ambitious, procrastination, being too demanding of teammates, being unable to articulate my vision to others and lack of confidence. These weaknesses are important because they take part in defining who I am and how I am viewed. For example, I do no want to be the team member that is difficult to work with, that is not how I want the business community to view me. These weaknesses hinder my ability to achieve my vision due to the fact that they all impact my character negatively. I will not be given the opportunity to take part in extracurricular group projects (which are essential in developing my fundamental leadership qualities) if I am lacking confidence or lacking the ability to articulate my vision. Procrastination and being overly ambitious will also hinder my vision of gaining a positive…

I believe that I show leadership qualities by being an excellent academic student. I have worked hard to achieve my goals, which are to make good grades, rank in the top 10% of my class, and graduate with honors. I continue to push myself to excel, I have been on the AB Honor Roll since elementary school; and I am currently #8 in my graduation class. I know that I am capable of being a leader, I am trustworthy, dependable, disciplined and responsible. I expect more of myself than my teachers and parents do. I am a true friend, I do not tell my friends what they want to hear, I tell them the truth. I am not a follower, I am a leader and I plan to be a leader on into my college years.…

A leader is a person who can take charge and direct. Being a leader creates work ethic and establishes independence, two things you must have in order to become successful. Leaders must govern a group to make sure a task is being completed, but the job of a leader is not easy. Leaders show independence by setting things in place on their own. Then they let the rest of the group know what to do. If the leader does not do their job, the group will not succeed.…

The traits within myself that I identify as my strengths are my constant observation and drive to improve the world. While at first glance, these traits may appear to be everyday characteristics of people, but I feel they are the solid foundation which my other strengths, like leadership, organization, creativity, and balance and are built on. In high school, I was stage manager for the fall musical, a job that included being the point person for one hundred plus students for three months, communication between the production parties, and making sure everything ran on time. My observations as well as interviews with past stage managers and research helped me build a solid foundation…
