My Interview With An Inmate-Personal Narrative
Monday was the first week back into investigations. I talked with Lt. Salter about federal jobs, and the best ways to go about applying for federal jobs. After our talk, I went to buffalo wild wings to eat lunch with detective Turner, and Childes. After lunch, I rode with detective turner to talk to a victim whose house was burglarized. After talking to the victim, detective asked the neighbors if they have seen anything but no one knew or saw anything. We attempted to do more cases, but we did not get any answers from the other victims. I would end the day in the office.

Tuesday I spent the day with Sgt. Smith. I was able to sit-in while she conducted an interview with an inmate. The detective was able to get the inmate side of the study and it help her to decide rather to take out warrants for her on going case or not. By the end of the interview she decided that the best solution was to take out a warrant. After we

I had a really good time socializing with them, and laughing at the stories they told. I rode with detective Cory today, we went to talk to a suspect. Surprisingly the suspect was home and decided to talk to us, and after hearing his story, it was clear that he did not want anything to do with the altercation that was going on, so he agreed to stay away and if anything starts to happen again he will contact the detective. While we were out and about there was a call that came in on the radio, so we went to check it out. I was able to watch the detective calm down the victim and ask her to tell him what happened. She explained the situation and once the police officers arrived to the seen the detective told them the situation, so the police officers then talked to the victims. We stayed there for about 20 minutes then we headed back to the office. I would end the day by looking at street camera videos, because the detective was trying to find a fight that happened at the

The prisoner’s normally find jobs with the oil company for fixing or cleaning the pipes which is a dangerous and physical job which naturally deters others people from working there. In April of 1865, Andersonville, Georgia served as a Civil War prison that held more than 45,000 Union soldiers, and almost 13,000 were killed. At the tender age of eighteen, I began my career as a correctional officer with the Texas Department of Corrections at the Ellis I Unit in Huntsville, Texas, a town with population of only about 30,000 people, but with seven prisons and more than 13,000 inmates. I attended a lengthy and thorough pre-service training academy that was conducted for eight hours every day for two weeks. All trainees were required to live in dormitories together as a group so we could sleep, eat, breathe, and drink corrections. There were about fifty trainees going through the academy at the same time. We were an interesting bunch with about half of the group being young guys like me looking for their first real job and the other half being forty-something military or law enforcement retirees wanting to pursue a new career. There were no women in my academy class. Women at the time could be found in support positions that were primarily clerical, but would not play a direct contact role in male corrections in Texas until 1984 (US Department of Justice, 1991).…

The day started off with Brian and I introducing ourselves. He informed me about him starting a year long project with him and his co-workers. They will be working to update and change the communication machines in the Police Cars such as their radios and other little updates throughout the vehicle. He then said I would have the opportunity to sit in a meeting with him and 3 other of his co-workers. They just discussed what they would be doing when they start the project and what they would need. These people that I met seemed like really fun people to work with and also easy to work with. We then took a tour of the entire department. We first went to the control room where everything is controlled through buttons and wires. This was very cool and interesting. He showed me what each cord and button did. We then went down to the garage and toured the cars. He showed me around the bomb squad truck and other police cars. This was very cool because I had never sat in a police car let alone in the drivers seat. We then went to where they fix the police cars and there was a car with everything torn out except the outside which was cool. We then went to other places like where they keep the drug dogs and where the head police officers office is. My favorite part was seeing where they interrogate criminals. They showed me that there are cameras all over in there to watch them. He told me a story about a guy who went…

    1. My entire career was spent at Computer Associates and while I can’t tell you first-hand about the pressures in other companies or industries I believe that CA was among the most aggressive in its pursuit of goals, a fact often relayed to me by my industry peers. Both the CEO and I exerted significant pressure on our teams to meet the goals that we had set for ourselves. As you would expect this has a trickle-down effect to others in the organization. While from this perspective performance was measured by internal goals at an executive level these targets were primarily driven by the expectations set by outside parties, primarily the analyst community. While institutional investors were very important their buy, sell, hold decisions were primarily made while relying on analyst information rather than because of direct communication with the company. There were obviously exceptions to this however the above was true in the majority of cases. Institutional investors tended not to be as industry savvy as the analyst community.…

This has to be one of my favorite assignments since becoming a student at Kaplan. I have been interested in the Criminal Justice since I was a small child. I come from a long line of military, however, my passion has always been Criminal Law. I remember even as a young girl in the 2nd grand, I had dreams and aspirations of becoming a lawyer. Now that I have an ex husband, and two children of my own and find the justice system a little “Leewayish” (if that’s even a word) on dead beat fathers, my dream has now become to be a “Ball busting District Attorney for deadbeat moms and dads. I am sick and tired of seeing the same faces in court every other month with the same stories that they cant find work, or they cant see their kids, or they were helping with the flood cleanup. I am sure you can feel my frustration! Other avenues of the law that I have a particular interest in is detective work, private investigation and cold case files. I am also an avid photographer so I would love to take that passion and put into crime scenes, while I pursue a law degree. My best friend Shonda, who I have interviewed for this assignment, is now a detective. She absolutely loves her job, but is currently back into school to further herself into a law degree. I love the cold cases being solved after all hope is lost, on television I know, but still yet. The Jaycee Duggard story gave me a new passion for cold case, when she was found years later. After her kidnapper left her emotionally scarred, she was still able to return to parents who never gave up hope. For my interviews I picked a street cop turned detective to see where her thought process was ethically on the questions at hand. For my second interviewee, I picked a K9 officer who was on the meth task force, but due to meth running a rampant race with the unemployment level sky high, I had…
