My Internship Analysis
a. Give an overall evaluation of your internship. Would you recommend the position to a friend or fellow psychology major? Why or why not?
My internship experience was great. I did not have experience with people with Autism before, and I was able to learn a lot from this experience. I would recommend this position to a friend/fellow psychology major because it helps one develop important skills that are useful for working with potential clients/patients in the future.
b. What skills or competencies have you developed from your internship? How will these skills set you apart as a job or graduate school applicant?
From this internship I have developed personal skills that are important in the OT field. For example, I have learned to be patient …show more content…
d. Perform a self-evaluation: How do you feel you performed at your internship? What were your strengths? What were your weaknesses?
I think I performed well at my internship. My strengths include staying positive and adaptable in any situations, and my weakness is my communicating skills. At my internship, I would never know how a student would react sometimes, so if anything did not go according to plan, I was able to adjust my plan. At the same time, I know I need to work on communicating more clearly my thoughts to both my colleagues and the students.
e. How did your internship and this course affect your career aspirations? Do you have a better understanding of your future career or field? What questions do you now have about the field or how to attain your career goals?
I think this internship and course made me surer of wanting to go into Occupational Therapy. I have a better understand that this career field will not always be easy because I will encounter people that need more patience and help than others. I cannot think of any other questions about by the field or how to attain my career goals as of now. However, I do want to observe the OTs in fields such as mental health and geriatric to see how different their jobs …show more content…
I love spending times with people who are passionate about what they do, and who are so patient and kind to their students. I will also miss seeing the students and hearing their questions/opinions on the silliest stuffs.
g. What concerns do you have about life after graduation? What specifically will you do to prepare yourself for this transition?
I think my biggest concern right now is getting into a graduate school, and then after that is finding a job. To prepare for these transitions, I would just continually work on my skills such as communication, personal, and problem solving skills as all of those are important in the OT field. I could seek out more work/internship opportunities to gain experiences that I could put on my resume and talk about in interviews.
h. What advice do you have for new interns? What do you wish you would have known when you first started?
My advice would just be to make sure you know the expectations your internship have prior to working there. I wish that I was more confident and speak up more in the classrooms, so that would be my advice as well, do that especially when you have
