My First Day in College
Do you remember your first day in College? Since high school, I had been waiting to go college. I always wanted to be a college student. My first day at Suffolk Community College was on September 2, 2003. It was a day full of new experiences. I got into a new educational experience with a different style of learning. My first day signified the beginning of my career and it was just as excited as if it was my first day of school. It was funny; I never imagined walking into my first class to be so exciting. I guess I did not know what to expect.

The rain was pounding against my window as I woke up at six thirty because I had to be at eight at clock at my first class in college. As I finally dragged myself out of the comfort of my bed, I felt the cold as I rushed to get a shower realizing that today wasn’t just my first day at college; it was the start of a journey. After I ate a quick breakfast, I drove to college and arrived half an hour early of my class. I’ll always remember that totally lost feeling of that day. The time was 7:30 a.m., and cars were already lined up waiting to park. Luckily, I was able to find a space to park my car. I entered the campus and asked people to help me find my classes. I walked down the main walkway and I was amazed at the size of the campus. Grass and trees surrounded it. I didn't know how to arrive to my classroom. I was lost and I had to ask one person about the building where I was going to take classes. This person was very nice and told me the right direction. I walked to the building, and when I arrived I saw some people and I felt strange.

My first class was scheduled to start at 8:00 am sharp. I was there about five minutes before and I was really excited. I sat in the corner of my classroom for a moment it seemed almost just like high school. Well, even though it was 8:00 our teacher was still not there, I was surprise Being the first day of class I would imagine the teacher to be almost as excited as myself. Mrs. Garcia walked in about five minutes late and rambled on about why she was late. She was probably the funniest teacher I have ever heard. She was a little to hyper for eight in the morning and it was very amusing. The first half an hour of the class Mrs. Garcia was introducing herself and after the introduction she gave us information about the class, homework and projects. Then the time flies and my first class were over. I felt like I was ten minutes in class, it was such a wonderful feeling to finish my first college class.

After my first class I had a thirty-minute break between classes, which for me, was confusing because for the last six years of high school, I was accustomed to have three minutes between each class. I liked the change, and it was nice to have that extra freedom. With a thirty-minute break I decided to visit the cafeteria and tried to make new friends. It was weird having all this time, but then an even bigger change smacked me in the face. when One of new my friends said, "We should skip our next class". I was like no we can't; we would get in trouble. Then it all became much clearer to me. I was no longer in high school; I could actually skip any class and not get in trouble. At the end I decided to go to my second class but it was almost the same as the first, fast and to the point. I couldn’t believe that at ten o'clock in the morning I was able to go home. It was the weirdest feeling to go home so early, but I had no complaints.

After I finished my classes I started driving home; by this time it had stopped raining. I felt good about myself; I had survive my first day.at that moment I realized it was time to start thinking about life and realize the importance of my education. I am always going to remember that day because I had the opportunity to meet more people and the most important I met my best friends that I have ever had. College really is a change from high school. There is so much more freedom and not many rules. The excitement I felt my first day remains very much alive, and will continue to grow as my college adventure rolls on.

I dreaded the alarm that woke me up at 6:30 in the morning. It was as loud as a screaming toddler that could be heard for miles. I groggily got out of bed and got ready for my first day of school. It was a weird feeling not putting on a uniform like I had been for the past nine years, but I also enjoyed that freedom. The nervousness became more and more intense as I could closer and closer to campus. When we arrived, I got out of the car, and watched my dad drive off to go take my younger sister to school. There was no going back now; I had no other choice than to walk through those doors. I felt like my throat was in my stomach. I noticed some familiar faces, and I walked towards them. While I was approaching my friends, a senior, facing toward me, walked passed. He must have been at least six feet tall, which was incredibly intimidating for me at just over five feet. I was not used to the fact that I’d potentially have classes with these giants. Additionally, the array of new teachers, and having to learn all of their teaching styles and things they did or did not tolerate was hard in…

It was a beautiful summer day at the beginning of my senior year. Students were anxious to meet their teachers and begin the last year of their high school career. There were those excited to graduate that knew exactly what they wanted to do with their life. Then there were those like me who had no idea what college they would be attending the following year. I knew I wanted to go to college, but I had no idea which one I wanted to attend or what my major would be. After I arrived that morning, I walked into the crowded hallway of my 4A public school on my way to my first and hardest class, pre-calculus AP. I was one of the last ones to enter the classroom and had no other choice but to sit next to my ex-best friend. It was already a bad day. Once the bell rang, Mr. Rogers, an older teacher with gray hair and big circular glasses, stood in front of the classroom and began teaching our first lesson. Within five minutes of the lesson, I was already lost. Once he turned around to see if anyone had questions, I was the first one to raise my hand.…

It was a cold, bitter October morning. The day had started off like most other, five a.m coffee and a lifeless bowl of buttermilk oatmeal. It would be soon that I slug into my 2005 Honda Civic and drive off to my final dreaded destanation, Maddy Austin Jake Bricker Middle School. As I dragged out of my car I was greeted by several students in which I gave a polite wave and hurried into my classroom which was buried deep into the middle school’s basement , nearly spilling my cheap 25 cent coffee. Just from the outcomes of my morning I could tell this was going to be a long regretful day.…

I was dazed by the modern and new appearance of the building, all the glass and metal beams was very fascinating. Compared to the school I had come from, which was basically just plain red brick. The minute I stepped into the building I had no idea where to go or what to do. So many new faces surrounded me that I was put into a awkward shock. I wasn't a very social person at the time so I basically minded my own business. The first period period bell eventually rang and I had no idea where to find my first period class was, so I approached a teacher and asked. I stated, “Hi, sorry im new here and I can't find my first period class,” they were very understanding and walked me all the way to my class. At this point in the morning my nerves had reached their peak and I was about to walk into my first class ever,…

On May 31, 2014, I woke up like any other day yet significantly more excited. I languidly dragged myself out of my comfortable bed, resigning to the bathroom to perform my typical morning rituals: shower, do my hair, makeup, and getting dressed. When I was completing the process of getting ready, it hit me hard that I was graduating today. At that point I began thinking about how I would never see my friends every day, no more soccer games to play, and no more doing my standard school actives. When I start college in the fall, I am going to have to learn a whole new routine. When I woke up from my thoughts, the time had come to make a beeline for Samford University for graduation.…

I was fully optimistic that the day would go well, but it did not fall in the plan that I believed it would. It was the same routine in a new environment. My first day at Larned High School started like every first day before me. The principal, Mr. Langdon, gathered all the students and welcomed us into a new school year. The speech as long but informational. It was a familiar speech that I had heard every first day of school. Unfortunately, this familiarity would end, and now I was stuck roaming the halls in a new school looking for my first class.…

As I sit in class, listening to the teacher ramble on about the topic. Not really paying attention, I keep looking up at the clock waiting for the bell to ring. Nerves are building in my stomach as I start thinking about tonight. The bell rings and the students rush to gather their things and leave. I walk out into the crowded hallway as people are leaving school. As I walk outside I become blinded by the light as if I had been in a cave. I hear the roar of trucks as country boys rev up their engines. I see the “cool” kids sitting in their cars as they light up cigarettes. All the parents that pick up their child, shaking their head in disappointment. I open the door to the football locker room and immediately become overwhelmed by the smell of sweaty…

College is like an unopened book with no title; you haven’t the slightest clue as to what’s to come, but you know you’re going to learn something new. I remember stepping into my first college class. I was filled with terror not knowing whom to expect in my class. As I walked in and looked around, I saw about twenty other people scattered about the room staring directly at me. I tried not to make eye contact with anybody, so I walked straight to an empty desk in the back and sat down. About twenty-five minutes after the professor began his lesson I had become drowsy and about to fall asleep. I tried to stay up but couldn’t resist. I awoke thirty minutes later to the ringing of the dismissal bell. The class was over, and I had felt horrible knowing nothing about what the class just learned. College can be a pretty tough place to get through, so know how to survive.…

I got up early that morning due to an improper sleep during the previous night. It was due to the anxiety to start fresh with my new life. I was determined to be the best in whatever it is that I do, so that I would have something to be proud of in the pages of my life. Due to the fear of reaching late during my first day, I reached one hour earlier than necessary and decided to spend some time at Just Snacks, which is a snack shop located at the ground floor of the UPSA’s main lecture block. I was hoping that time would move a lot faster because I wanted to find out about what was going to happen next. But it is a common fact that if we are anxiously waiting for something, time would seem to crawl a lot slower. When it was finally the time to go to the lecture hall, I hoped for everything to go on smoothly, just as how I expected it. I braced myself and asked one of the students where to locate my lecture hall which is numbered LBC 306, After being instructed on which room to go to, I started walking towards the class, the mixture of excitement and nervousness start to fill within me. I started to feel like class one pupil all over again where I was a little kid who didn’t know where to go. I didn’t know anyone in the class except for Jay Gartey, who is my childhood friend.…

As my mom drove her car to school, she spoke encouraging words to me. As soon as we arrived at school, my hands felt clammy. My body screamed inside as I entered the school premises with my mother and older brother. My mind raved with many thoughts as of how I was going to make friends, or if the teacher was going to be mean and cruel. I lacked confidence of how I was going to do on that day.…
