My Extremely Embarrassed Moment
Have you ever had the experience that you mistook somebody for someone you knew in the public? When you were shopping, hanging around, or just standing in somewhere, suddenly, you saw a familiar back of someone. So you decided to step forward to pat on that person's shoulder to surprise him or her. However, the person whoever you thought he or she was wasn't the one you thought. I did have this kind of experience which was so embarrassed that I can still remember every tiny detail that day even though it took place almost fifteen years ago. I have lived in Kaohsiung since I was little enough to be held in arms, and like other kids did, I went to the nearest elementary school. Because the school was just nearby, I went to school by foot every day. Therefore, the range from my school to my home was my playground in my childhood. I knew the places and the people around the school and my home very well. I knew where I can buy the cheapest candy and sometimes even get one more for free. I knew which food stands were delicious in the nearby traditional market. Also, I knew that almost every Wednesday, my mother would get her hair done in the particular hair salon which her friend worked in. I left school about lunch time just like other Wednesdays. On my way home, I was pondering if I should buy an ice cream or not because it was noon and the weather was really hot. I counted the money I had, sadly finding out that I only had eight dollars in my pocket. So I was quite blue and disappointed during the way home. I stopped at an intersection to wait for traffic lights. Suddenly, an idea flashed through my mind. The idea was that maybe I could find my mother in the hair salon she usually goes, and it shouldn’t be difficult to ask for two dollars to buy an ice cream. Although she didn’t like me to eat too much ice cream, it was still possible if I asked nicely. Ignoring the traffic lights, I made a right turn and walked toward the hair salon. Beside the shop,

Once we arrived in Kelowna, we were able to stay with Lyndees girlfriend. Since it was a Monday, not much was open, so we ended up walking over to a place just down the street from where we were staying. I remember feeling guilty for missing work, but I told myself to make the most of it, and just have fun. As i was getting a drink - a guy accidently bumped into me, and spilled his drink. He apologized a few times, and said that his friends and him would like to buy us a drink as an apology. I told him that it wasn't necessary and that his apology was more than enough. As I was about to walk away - a tall, blond hair, blue eyed guy walked up, and introduced himself as Brad. He was wearing a bright blue shirt, dark jeans and white shoes. I will never forget the feeling I got, when I seen him for the first time. I tried not to make it obvious, and I've never admitted this before, but I was mesmerized.…

It was Tuesday, March first, 2011, my mother woke me up so I can start getting ready for school. I rose with eager anticipation, just four more days until my thirteenth birthday and I just couldn’t wait. I brushed my teeth and hurried down to eat the complimentary breakfast offered to us by the hotel we were staying at. You see we had been staying at a hotel for the past five months because the home we had been renting was foreclosed on so the utility companies turned off the power and the electricity. We had to get down at just the right time so that there was a small crowd but a lot of food so that we can take food back to the room to save for dinner. After breakfast, we…

It had been a crazy morning as I ran all over my house trying to find my jacket and boots. My mom had been admitted into the hospital that morning for a massive headache and all I could think about was whether or not she would be okay. I took her to the emergency room that day before so going to class was the last thing on my mind. My father and sister had agreed to stay with her till I ended class so I was more at ease knowing she wouldn’t be alone. After running all over my house looking for my things I quickly gathered myself to make my train. I finally got to Penn Station with four minutes to spare. I quickly walked to where the rest of my class was as we waited for instructions to where we would…

My friend told me about this scholarship program called Carpe Mundi who helps low income, first generation students travel at a low cost. It was hard to believe and I did not have high expectations at the time but I took a chance. I got accepted and the whole process, from orientation to boarding a plane, did not seem real until my 2nd day in Quito, Ecuador. The feeling of a dream turning into reality just happened so fast and felt surreal. Through Carpe Mundi, I was able to complete a 3 month service learning abroad in Ecuador and…

Experiences of failure throughout life can be challenging to overcome. But later on, as you learn from those, they can be the building blocks of achieving success later on in life. An example of going through failure and learning from the experience to be able to work harder and find success was the soccer season of my freshman. During my season of club soccer, my team played in Austin Labor Day Cup tournament in Pflugerville, Texas in the fall of my freshman year of high school. It was the first big tournament of the year for our club team because we were placed in a group much more competitive than the others. We also played in a year up in division so we knew to come very well prepared before we made the hour long trip to the Austin area that weekend. The week before, we had trained all week long in the heat, so to come down to Austin and not be successful would be a huge disappointment to not only the team but the supporters of the club and parents. But we were too psyched for the big week ahead.…

As a young teen I always dreamt of accomplishing something that would have people’s eyes opened. Many doors were opened right before me and I could’ve walked through anyone. Having that opportunity I took the advantage I had and tried several doors. Doing so, after a while I never had the intentions of finishing what I began because nothing came naturally to me. At that point of my life I was 13 years old. The typical age of a girl who wants to be noticed for something outstanding as the athletes or celebrities in magazines and television. During recess my girlfriends were talking about shopping, nails, and makeup. For an odd reason during those conversations I always felt like the outcast snoozing out occasionally. Trying to find something different to do with my time, out of curiosity I ease dropped on the boys’ conversation for a few minutes. Weirdly, I wanted to become a part of it. As curiosity killed I continued listening to the conversation. Between all the gibberish spoken, horse racing was brought up. It was as random as snow on a summer day to bring up, but aside from it being random the idea of horse riding sounded interesting. Walking home from school, I was filled with excitement to ask my parents about it. To them it was just one of my ridiculous ideas I was fantasizing about. The next day I ran in to my old friend Milana. As we were talking I mentioned horse riding to her and ironically her cousin worked at the stables just a half an hour away. Her name was Jess, she was older then us by a few years. Jess worked there for so long it became apart of her life; she knew everything and everyone at the stables. I ran home to tell my parents about it. As ridiculous as it sounded it finally came to their thought as to what they had to loose, or what did I have to loose. The weekend came along and together with Milana, to make it for Jess’s late hours when no one was there, we drove down to the stable.…

It happen one Saturday morning Summer of 1982, I was 10 years old and very adamant about helping my mom with anything she needed. This one particular morning, mom was cooking my favorite breakfast, bacon, eggs, toast and cream of wheat. It always took a while for breakfast and dinner to be completed because mom was cooking for 11 children. She needed some sugar to complete the meal this particular morning. And as always, I was there and ready to help get things done. So, I prepare myself to go to the corner store a block away from the house. I started on my way to the store with the five dollars that she gave me to purchase the sugar. Halfway to the store, I started thinking about what I could buy out of the five dollars without her noticing that too much money had been spent. Well, if you knew my mom, you would know that she could count money very well. This meant I couldn’t get the M&Ms candy that I love to eat so much.…

The last time I was in the hospital visiting my grandma I found out she had cancer. It was like any other day, getting out of school, going home, and yet something didn’t feel right. All day as I listened to my teachers teach but yet my mind was somewhere far off. I just kept thinking to myself something’s not right, something’s up. At this moment, math seems to be troubling me. I knew that 5 times 5 equaled 25, but somehow I couldn’t write it down. Some may say it’s a supernatural thing whenever you have feelings of bad news. So entering through the door is my mom, she doesn’t say much she just puts her bag down and tells me to go wait in the car for her. Now I know something is awaiting me, I could just taste it. As we are riding in the car I asked a simple question, but very anxious for the answer,” Where are we going?” She replies very slowly “To the hospital”. I soon felt a chill go down my spine, we rarely went to the hospital but when we did it was usually for someone very sick or even worse, on their death bed. Now I’m totally freaking out, who could it be? Did I spend enough time with them? Who haven’t I seen in a while? All of these questions are running through my head. But we finally get to the hospital, and my heart is pounding so hard it feels as though it’s going to burst out of my chest. Even my throat is dry; it’s all scratchy feeling like the Sahara Desert. Our destination was the fourth floor, Room 4421. We enter the elevator and it finally it gets to a halt. I hear a crowd of laughter, I smell bed sheets that have been messed, and I see a smaller crowd ahead of me. Their sobbing very loudly and I just stopped for a moment because they were standing right beside Room 4421. I hardly could recognize their faces, as they had them covered in tears and covered by each other’s arms. Then a man with a white jacket came out and said softly but assuring “I’m so sorry about your lost, she’s going to be in a better place right now but we are going to be…

    Embarrasing Moment

I consider myself to be one who doesn't easily get embarrassed, but one of my most embarrassing moments happened this past summer. It all started when a few friends of mine decided that since it was incredibly hot out that summer day, that we should all go down to Tubbs hill for a swim. I’m not sure if you realize how busy downtown is during mid-summer season, but understand it’s almost always completely jammed full of people trying to fight off the blistering sun. So my friends and I hiked up the path to get a good spot to start jumping off the rocks and start swimming, but all the great spots were all full. We decided to just find a close spot and just deal with all the people in the area. Our day progressed as normally as you’d expect, and everyone was enjoying the water and how refreshing it was fighting off the heat of the day. Eventually everyone was starting to get bored jumping off the smaller rocks as well as just swimming around, so my friends decided we should start jumping off the higher rocks. Eventually it came to my turn to jump and I went for it. As I dived into the water I didn’t realize at the time the sheer pressure on my swim shorts, but once I broke the surface of the water for air it struck me. I had lost my swim shorts on the dive, so I was sitting in the water completely nude in front of all my friends and random strangers that were watching. I franticly searched for my swim shorts, but to no avail, they were lost. Eventually a friend brought me a towel so I could get out of the water and return home. I would have to say that this was one of the most extremely embarrassing moments I’ve had so far in my…
