Big Joe Bradeys: A Short Story
1 hour and 23 minutes it took me to get to ‘Big Joe Bradeys’ restaurant from the airport, only to find that it was closed down, and transformed into a hardware store.

Standing in the doorway of the dark hardware store, I saw a police officer, as he approached the store I decided to say, “It’s all right officer.” and then added. “I’m just waiting for a friend. It’s an appointment made 20 years ago.” I explained the story to the officer.
I lit my cigar, and with the light from the fire, it lit my face and warmed my skin. “Twenty years ago from today,” I continued ,” I dined here at ‘Big Joe Bradeys’ with Jimmy wells, my best chum and finet chap in the world! he and I were raised here in New York, just like two brothers, together. The next day i was to head out west to collect my fortune.”

Hoppe your friend comes around all right. Going to call time on him sharp?” asked the police officer.
“I’ll give him an half hour at least. If Jimmy’s alive on this Earth, he’ll be here.”
The officer began to walk away and i was left in my door way once again.
About ten minutes later, a man was making his way down the street in a long coat, and quite tall. I didn’t recognize him until he said my name.
“Is that you, Bob?” he asked doubtfully.
“Is that you, Jimmy Wells?” I then asked with a pang of excitement.
We talked about things that happened over the years, while making our way down to his job, the police

As Officer Marconi drove toward the store, he noticed a woman matching her description walking along the side of the road, carrying what appeared to be clothing. Once the officer reached the location of the woman, he recognized her—Mary Jones—as being an individual he had arrested several times before for public drunkenness, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, felony larceny, and prostitution. Officer Marconi anticipated that this could be a very challenging situation because Jones did not like law enforcement, tended to be aggressive, and had, in the past, run as soon as she saw a police cruiser. Marconi called for backup and asked Jones to stop as he stepped out of his vehicle. She started to run, but he caught up with her very quickly.…

At 4am dispatch received a call from the resident at 137 West Alexander Drive, who claimed to have heard a scream from his neighbours house. Captain Jason Long turned the case over to Officer Brice Tyler, Officer Lily Rayne, and I. At approximately 4:30am we arrived at the house knocking on the door. The young man answered with a smile on his face. I had noted that he seemed wide awake, as if he had been up for some time, as he invited us inside. We told him of our cause of being there, and he immediately told us the old man was visiting his sister in another town. He did not give us more details. instead, he showed us that the old mans belongings were exactly in there proper place. Afterward, he asked us to sit down in the bedroom, chatting easily about his evening. Soon after, he seemed to become agitated, raising his voice and speaking angrily. He was soon pacing and hitting the table, threatening us to make us stop agonising him, even though we did not say a threatening word to him.…
