My Diet Analysis
My current eating habits are not very good. I eat fast food at least one time everyday whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner with exception of Sunday. On Sunday I fix a home cooked meal. I have a sweet tooth so I tend to eat a lot of sweets from cookies to candy and everything in between I tend to over do it. My favorite meal is fried chicken wings, loaded mash potatoes, macaroni and cheese, cut green beans, jiffy cornbread muffins and for dessert triple chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I also have to have a soda when I eat. I do not eat many vegetables but I do eat a lot of broccoli and cheese lots of cheese. I have a bad habit of eating late ad then going to sleep on it. However, after beginning this class and reading all …show more content…
of protein. Day two I consumed 11 ½ oz. of grains, 2 ¼ cup of vegetables, ¼ cup of fruit, 1 ¼ of dairy and 4 ½ oz. of protein. Day three I consumed 8oz. of grains, 3 ¼ cup of vegetables, no fruit, 1 ¼ cup of dairy and 9oz. of protein. According to the three day analysis I was either under the recommended intake amount or way over the intake amount recommended for me within my plan. To modify my diet to best use the six classes of nutrients and recommended serving I will include more vegetables in my meals. Instead of eating candy and a lot of sweets I will eat fruit that is sweet to make up for the candy. I will change the way I make my salads instead of ice berg lettuce I will use dark leafy green lettuce to make my salads. I will stop drinking a lot of sodas and replaced them with 100% fruit juice or water. The six classes of nutrients are water, protein, carbohydrate, lipids (fats), vitamins and minerals. My nutrients intake affects my current health because I recently found out I have high blood pressure and I am sure my current diet plays a major role. I never thought about just how much sodium is in some of the foods I eat such as pork and I love bacon and

How does your diet compare to the recommendations you received from the Food Guide Pyramid? I just recently decided that I was going to start eating healthier. I am not on a diet! That is just too much stress. However, I have made quite a bit of progress with changing how I eat. The recommendation that I got were not that off of what I’m trying to accomplish. I need to eat more fruit and vegetables. I have been doing well with the grain and fiber intake. I need to do better with my sodium intake, which is still a little high, but is much lower than what I used to consume.…

One noticeable trend was that most of the (fast) food I consumed was high in sodium. I also noticed that majority of my sugar and moisture intake along with half of my fluoride intake came from the sodas I consumed. My meals also did not include many fiber-rich bean dishes; I only consumed beans once in the course of three days. Based on the trends found, I plan to incorporate more lipid and fiber rich foods into my diet such as beans and green leafy vegetables, as well as avoid foods that have unhealthy amounts of sodium. For example, according to whfoods.org, eating whole fruit instead of drinking a fruit juice and make a healthy impact on your fiber increase because they provide you with more nutrients such as fiber and essential vitamins as well as less calories than fruit…

My current diet is a complete disaster. Because of my work schedule, I don’t get up until around 11:00am, so when I do wake I have a cup or two of orange juice which is what I consider to be my breakfast. On the way to work, I grab a hamburger and soft drink. Also, I sometimes skip the soft drink and get a Monster energy drink if I am still tired from the night before. I have to put Devion on the bus in the morning which leaves me very sleepy most days, so I use this as an excuse to grab the energy drinks to make it through each day. My day at work is really boring, so, my co-worker and I sit and eat to actually entertain ourselves throughout the day. One of my major obstacles will be to ignore her when she offers me some foods or snacks because she really likes to eat several different snacks throughout the day. She really gets offended if someone turns down her offer for a snack, but, I would really like to lose some of this weight.…

I am not a picky eater or one who watches what I eat. I enjoy cooking and I love to eat food that is bad for me. My favorite meal is fried pork chops, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, turnip greens and corn bread. I am from the south where we use food as a comfort item. When we are happy, sad, mad or just board we eat. We have festivals to celebrate the food we eat. My diet is way off the SuperTrackers recommendations. I eat mainly one meal a day sometimes two. I do not eat a lot of fresh fruits. I need to stop drinking so many soft drinks and I should take out the sugar in my tea. I consumed little to no fresh fruits on a daily basis. I eat a lot of protein, but still not what I should eat daily I only ate around 40% of what I should have. One thing I should do is eat more of the good foods and do less snacking during the day. I am going to make myself a promise to eat at least one fresh fruit a day. I went and bought strawberries and cantaloupe so I can eat a little better. I know this is only a small fix and will only work if I stick to it. I can start to measure my food portions so I do not over eat. This will help me watch the amount of fats and starches that I take in. I love broccoli and could eat more of it, it is full of fiber and nutrients that are good for me.…

For this three day diet analysis project I wanted to eat as I normally would and be honest about all that I ate, to analyze not only what and how much I was eating, but also to see how healthy my diet really is. By doing so I can see if any of my diet choices are putting me at risk for certain health diseases, and what changes can be made to make my diet healthier. After analyzing my diet, I would say I am fairly healthy, though I am out of the target range in a few areas. My profile calculated from my weight and height indicates that I have a BMI of 20.5. This is considered to be healthy; the healthy range is anywhere between 18.5-25. This was reassuring to hear because I am happy at my current weight, and would not like to make any major changes.…

Also, these articles proved that the two behaviors I wanted to change go hand in hand with one another. When I first started this project, I noticed I wasn’t taking it as seriously become change doesn’t happen overnight. However, about two days after vowing to start, I began meal prepping to eat when there is down time between my classes. These meals or snacks consisted on whole apples, fruit salads, home cooked rice and chicken, and occasionally a whole-wheat sandwich. Although, there were somedays I forgot to pack my lunches which forced me to drink 16 oz of water to curve my cravings. Moreover, on days I failed to pack my lunch and water plagued a huge set back in my progress. During these times, I took a couple trips to In N Out and other fast food joints. Even though I knew how tired and heavy I would feel after eating a greasy meal, it became a much easier routine. As time went on and I ran into the same mishap, I found myself proudly driving past fast food restaurants and overjoyed when purchasing a fresh Sprouts vegetable salad or protein…

In order to improve my current diet, I need to reduce my caloric intake to the 1500-calorie diet recommended on USDA’s SuperTracker. The most efficient way to do this is to eat healthier meals at home rather than unhealthy, easy to procure fast food. In addition, I exceed my sodium intake with 2,016 mg on average, 516 mg over the recommended amount. Due to harmful effects of high sodium intakes on blood pressure, a prominent risk factor for cardiovascular and kidney diseases, the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine established the Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL) for Sodium at 2,300 mg. This indicates that I must lower my sodium intake as a precautionary measure (Higdon, Sodium (Chloride), 2001). Again, as mentioned above, the most proficient way to do this is by eliminating fast food out of my diet along with analyzing nutrition labels for high sodium content.…

Over the course of this week I have learned many things about my eating habits. I found that when I am very busy I tend to eat less and healthier. When I am just sitting around I tend to eat more than necessary and the foods are not as good for me. Using this tracker has really helped me to see what I am consuming, as far as carbohydrates, fats, sugars, proteins, sodium, and total calories. I have also been able to tell that the more active I am the more calories that I burn in a day. Before I started using the tracker I never gave much thought to how many calories I was burning just walking around, cleaning, cooking, and working. My eating habits are not the greatest. This week I went to the beach for a couple of days and my eating habits while we were driving to and from Delaware was horrible. I ate fast food and consumed way to much sodium and sugars. When we were cooking for ourselves and walking around all day my numbers were much better. I did notice using this tracker though that I need to eat more vegetables and proteins, and cut back on my sugars. I have a hard time staying under my daily sugar allotment. Overall, I really do need to improve my eating habits.…
