I am not a picky eater or one who watches what I eat. I enjoy cooking and I love to eat food that is bad for me. My favorite meal is fried pork chops, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn, turnip greens and corn bread. I am from the south where we use food as a comfort item. When we are happy, sad, mad or just board we eat. We have festivals to celebrate the food we eat. My diet is way off the SuperTrackers recommendations. I eat mainly one meal a day sometimes two. I do not eat a lot of fresh fruits. I need to stop drinking so many soft drinks and I should take out the sugar in my tea. I consumed little to no fresh fruits on a daily basis. I eat a lot of protein, but still not what I should eat daily I only ate around 40% of what I should have. One thing I should do is eat more of the good foods and do less snacking during the day. I am going to make myself a promise to eat at least one fresh fruit a day. I went and bought strawberries and cantaloupe so I can eat a little better. I know this is only a small fix and will only work if I stick to it. I can start to measure my food portions so I do not over eat. This will help me watch the amount of fats and starches that I take in. I love broccoli and could eat more of it, it is full of fiber and nutrients that are good for me. There are six classes of nutrients: Carbohydrates, Fats, Proteins, Vitamins, Minerals, and Water. Carbohydrates are vegetables, whole grains and whole wheat pasta. They are the main source of fuel for our bodies. Fats are oils that can be from vegetables, canola oil and flaxseed oil. Proteins can be found in many foods we eat like fish, nuts and legumes (beans). Proteins help support our growth. All three of these classes are listed together because our body needs each one of them in large amounts for energy. Vitamins help support our immune

How does your diet compare to the recommendations you received from the Food Guide Pyramid? I just recently decided that I was going to start eating healthier. I am not on a diet! That is just too much stress. However, I have made quite a bit of progress with changing how I eat. The recommendation that I got were not that off of what I’m trying to accomplish. I need to eat more fruit and vegetables. I have been doing well with the grain and fiber intake. I need to do better with my sodium intake, which is still a little high, but is much lower than what I used to consume.…

Carbohydrates, proteins and lipids are identified as macronutrients. The carbohydrates, proteins and lipids are all sources of energy for the body to function. When insufficient macronutrients are received the individual would become severely fatigue, and acceptable to chronic diseases. To keep the adequate amounts of macronutrients is important to maintain being healthy. Every cell in the body has protein, when not consuming enough protein the body will have difficulty functioning. Without sufficient amount of proteins, the concentration of protein would drop below normal levels in the bloodstream (Wardlaw & Smith, 2011, p. 221). Without macronutrients the body would become malnourished, suffering from fatigue, and decreased organ size with possible…

We’ve heard time and time again during our lives how important it is to eat fruits and vegetables or to have a well-balanced diet. We also know how hard it can be to ensure that you are eating enough of the right thing. Are fast food restaurants as bad as people make them seem? How do you know if your diet contains all of the essential vitamins and minerals? The answers to both of these questions lie in the results from the three-day food intake assignment I participated in. Using the information I recorded in IProfile, I was able to record my intake of protein, carbohydrates and lipids, the amount of fiber intake, and notice pattern or trends in my diet that could be modified.…

First I had to determine my daily requirements by using a calorie calculator. I was able use the weight loss calculator to determine the time and calorie deficit required to reach my target weight. For my optimal weight loss I reduced my calories to 15-20% below maintenance. When I did not make progress I increased this later, the larger my deficit produced, the quicker my body caught on. I learn that my first step should be to increase my activity levels. By me creating a larger calorie deficit, I had to exercise, cardio to burn calories, resistance training to maintain muscle mass.…

The results for my new diet when compared to the recommendations from the SuperTracker are very bad indeed. I am not eating enough grains, vegetables, fruits, dairy or protein foods. An average for the amount of grains I consumed was 6 and a half ounces which is 2 servings each of these days. I consumed one and a half cup of fruits and vegetables which is about 2 servings on Saturday. I did not eat any other fruit during this three day period. I also consumed a quarter cup of dairy. From the proteins foods group, I consumed 2 and a half ounces and from the oils groups which is not a serving at all, but when this measured is about 2 teaspoons.…

Over the course of this week I have learned many things about my eating habits. I found that when I am very busy I tend to eat less and healthier. When I am just sitting around I tend to eat more than necessary and the foods are not as good for me. Using this tracker has really helped me to see what I am consuming, as far as carbohydrates, fats, sugars, proteins, sodium, and total calories. I have also been able to tell that the more active I am the more calories that I burn in a day. Before I started using the tracker I never gave much thought to how many calories I was burning just walking around, cleaning, cooking, and working. My eating habits are not the greatest. This week I went to the beach for a couple of days and my eating habits while we were driving to and from Delaware was horrible. I ate fast food and consumed way to much sodium and sugars. When we were cooking for ourselves and walking around all day my numbers were much better. I did notice using this tracker though that I need to eat more vegetables and proteins, and cut back on my sugars. I have a hard time staying under my daily sugar allotment. Overall, I really do need to improve my eating habits.…
