John Peter Gabriel Muhlenberg was a successful man. His work as a priest led him to a political career. In 1774 he served in the House of Burgesses and became involved with the leaders of the Revolution for a few years. In 1776 he raised a regiment from the Shenandoah Valley and soon after was commissioned a brigadier general in the Continental Army as well as many other battles.
