Monday Blues Research Paper
Four years ago I was diagnosed. My school life became increasingly difficult since I was told I had the illness that nobody wants to have. Throughout the years I have learned that my illness does not define me; but that I have to look straight into its eyes and fight back. Upon diagnoses, I became aware of how many people were suffering around me just the same. For the majority of my schooling career, I have been fighting the illness of the Monday Blues. No matter how persistently I tried, these days just wouldn’t get any better. As the weeks continued on through the school year, rolling out of bed before the sun became more and more burdensome. Some people view Monday as “just another day” and continue on with their lives. Not me. Coping …show more content…
I prevailed and pushed through the rainy cloud of Monday that so easily dragged me down. After years of moping around on the awful first day of the week, I came up with a seemingly small, but effective solution. While some people take on the week in sweatpants and t-shirts, I start off strong. I have started every single week since the eighth grade in my favorite dresses. Yes, that means for 144 Mondays, over the course of four years, I have dressed up. There have been times that I wished to show up to school in my favorite sweatshirt, but I pushed through and attempted to look my best. There is something about putting in the extra effort in the morning that allows my Mondays to become manageable. Perhaps it is the excitement of showing off my newest dress, or maybe decorating myself in jewelry of all sorts. Despite the my initial uncertainty, this method has proved to be quite rewarding. Consequently, I wear clothes that I feel confident and comfortable in to improve my Mondays. Hearing compliments throughout the day gives me the extra push and motivation that I’m looking for. On top of just beating the awful Monday blues, I’ve learned to apply this solution to other issues. I use this my developed technique when I have to do something outside of my comfort zone such as a job interview or even a class presentation. When dressing for these occasions, I immediately gravitate towards the dresses and fancy outfits because I know what makes me feel the most
