Mission To Pluto Research Paper
Paragraph for Mission to Pluto
My writing project is a first-person narrative of the first manned mission to Pluto. This will be the first human mission to the icy dwarf planet Pluto. In hopes to figure out if there is liquid water underneath the frozen nitrogen, the pilot will experience many obstacles. Risks of solar flares from the sun. the particles ejected from the flare is extremely dangerous for a manned mission. Since the trip is very long the spacecraft must be equipped with protective shielding from radiation. The spacecraft must use a lot of fuel to get out of both gravitational pulls from the earth and moon then with the use of the gravity from Jupiter to slingshot to a trajectory to Pluto, saving energy and allowing for optimal speed. The distance to Pluto is 4.67 Billion miles away, energy must be efficient with the use of RTGs and solar panels. The solar panels must be able to rotate to reach optimal energy intake. The new technology used to travel space will be with the use of light sail technology. Light sail uses the pressure of light to move the spacecraft without the use of fuel. Once

During the time right after the cold war, the United States and the Soviet Union became engaged in a “Space Race” to see which country could get a man on the moon first and ultimately claim space for their nation. The Soviet Union led the way by sending the first satellite into space and then the first human. On April 12, 1961, Yuri Gagarin was the first human to go into space and make a complete orbit around the earth. Yuri was a Russian Soviet pilot and cosmonaut. He became an international celebrity over night. He returned to earth as a national hero in his country. His flight is still the shortest flight, 108 minutes from launch to landing. Although Yuri moved up the ranks in the Soviet Air Force, he was banned from the space program.…

The planet is probably named after this god because it moves quickly across the sky. Venus is the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Venus is undoubtedly named after her because it makes a beautiful sight in the sky. Earth is the only planet whose English name does not come from Greek/Roman mythology. Mars is the Roman god of War. The planet probably got this name due to its red color. Jupiter is the King of the Gods in Roman mythology, making the name a good choice for what is, by far the largest planet in our solar system. Saturn is the Roman god of agriculture. Uranus is the ancient Greek god of the Heavens, the earliest supreme god.…

The Challenger and Columbia space shuttle disasters were perhaps two of the most prominent reminders of how crucial it is that everything works just right for a spacecraft to travel to space and successfully return back to Earth. There are countless factors that come into play when considering space flight. Thermal control, solar and lunar attraction to name a small number but I shall explore only a select few.…

What is the Kepler mission? Many people don’t even know what is going on here on earth let alone in space. The Kepler mission is searching the skies for planets that are the same size as earth and worlds that could possibly similar to our own (Site 1). The Kepler spacecraft has found over 750 candidates for extra solar planets and that is just from data collected in the first 43 days of the spacecraft 's observations. This is the biggest release of candidate planets that has ever happened. This is amazing; just imagine if there is that many other planets like earth with human life on it. The Kepler team has found so many candidates, they are sharing. They will keep the top 400 candidates to verify and confirm with observations using other telescopes with observations done by Kepler team members (Site 2). February 2013, asteroid 2012 DA14 is plummeting towards Earth. My science class at Crestwood Junior High was chatting about this amazing phenomenon. Most of the class is just counting down the minutes until the bell rings. But I had just started my journey through the unknown, that is still going on today. Wanting to learn all I can about spacecrafts, planets, asteroids, and the many other things around us. From some of the first spacecrafts, all the way to cool technologies that never came to be. Just like the Dyna-Soar spaceplane that was canceled just before building started. This space age style journey has been going on for more than three years. Over just three short space filled years, I have accumulated two telescopes,…
